Doing the right thing, paying Les, was blackmail in Ann’s eyes; in reality, cancelling the event is a logical consequence of not paying. The fact she doesn’t get this consequence means the table has turned and Les surpassed his own mother. We also get insight into her clientele, that the event is invitation-only; Les is present to bar entry to the general public as opposed to serving (and interacting) with the guests.
OMG, are you kidding me? Les, Once Again, demonstrates he is a died in the wool scumbag and posters want to celebrate how “nice” he is? Have we ever seen ANYTHING put a smile on his face like that Fistful of Dollars? Sigh.
OK – so it looks like Anne Awful is confounding us all, and the event might actually be a lingerie show. So what accounts for the look on her face when she left her little meeting with Pru? I took it to mean that she had something up her sleeves that had more to do with revenge than a sales party…. (see the August 10 strip.) Or was that just a “you all are sooo far beneath me I can’t believe I even have to deal with you” type of sneer?
Everyone wonders how Anne is going to get hers (crime doesn’t pay – and the benefits are awful). Could it be Uncle Al in the kitchen, not trusting his sister OR maybe TJ in the dining room with more recording equipment? Will be curious what the ‘party’ really is.
Ann got her son to do this because she thought it would be free. She should have hired somebody else at the Fuse – anybody! Les is going to hit on one of the women walking in.
Lingerie party is boring. I mean, come on, women watching other women parading around in flimsy garments or browsing a catalog? It is also expensive to hire models to showcase the lingerie. I doubt it would be a live show. Catalog, yes. Yawn. Poker is boring too and so NOT lady’s game. Granted, there are an occasional lady playing poker, but it is vastly a man’s game. Male strippers? Maybe. Live demonstrations of sex toys, definitely. These are the most likely. But this is a family strip, so I am thinking it’ll be just a boring lingerie catalog party. A MLM kind of thing. I’ve been and did not order anything. I rather see the real thing at a store.
Les is low-life… did you fellow reader’s forget his theater charity collection that lined his pockets? Stealing somebody’s credit card and using it, is a criminal offense!
I have no idea what Ann has planned for this “event.” I can only surmise that, because Ann is making it “by invitation only,” it must mean that she wants only those of whom she can take full advantage (read: “suckers”). Ann’s going to try and scam them, somehow. Of course, she can’t have anyone else show up that might call BS on her scam.
The Big Question Is: Considering His past History with Lovely Ladies, How the Lecherous Leslie Knox will React if the “Lingerie Models” ARE shall We say, “Hot?”
Will He abandon His “Post” to Ogle the Nubile, Bountiful, Voluptuous, Scantily Clad Young Women, and attempt to “Warm up the Crowd” with His Infamous “Cherry Trick,” Leaving the Front Door UNGUARDED for exactly the WRONG Person to just “Wander In?”
And Will One of those “Lingerie Ladies” be Mr Ferrell’s new “Girl Friend?”
Perhaps Greg’s intent is to have Les as a stock villain in the strip. I suppose I could live with that. What would Popeye be without Bluto? (Considering Popeye’s erratic behavior, perhaps Bluto was necessary in order to define Popeye as the hero of Thimble Theatre)
Yes, the Evanses have seemingly boxed themselves into an actual lingerie party. I should have suspected because no one could come up with anything more plausible. With hindsight, the “gaming room theory”, would have meant that Ann was risking a felony. Her style is more to take advantage of the gullibility and trust of others.
Starting to wonder if this may actually be a lingerie party. Tables and chairs. Not all cleared away for some illegal or immoral activities. But the “watch the door till we are done” leaves me wondering.
In California state law, petty theft becomes grand theft when one purchases $950 or more with a credit care not belonging to the user. A common penalty is one year in prison, that can be reduced in some circumstances.
Well, Leslie got his $80 in advance, so he is at least content now to collaborate in whatever his biological mother’s scheme may really be (IMO, almost anything but a lingerie party; given the Family Rating required here, it’s probably something more in the realm of gambling rather than sex). But how long he will remain content to serve as a gatekeeper/bouncer is in play….

And the handicap sign on the Fuse wall.

You know… Les is becoming more like TJ every day.
First, because he’s turning into a nicer guy who cares about decent people.
Second, because he’s learning how to out-manipulate Ann.

NOW will we get to SEE what nefarious thing Ann is hosting tomorrow?? Unless someone pops in and puts the show on the brakes?
