Gee… who’s Axel’s equally lame pal?

And sitting next to Axel is Bert from Sesame Street.

Axel can’t be all that indifferent/cynical if he’d attend a school performance of The Wizard of Oz. I wonder whether he, like Faye, has a kind of shyness or hesitancy about taking risks to perform on stage. I think they both like theatre.

Now is the viewer under discontent made glorious thumper by this heart of Fay.

It looks like Axel’s lips are in a permanent pucker state. Is it my imagination or does his hair come down over his sunglasses?

The only thing more disappointing would be if the director of this school play turned out to be the Q-ball…

Ugh. Please draw Axel’s lips better. He looks like he is sending kisses. If Greg was aiming for the pouty lips, Angelina-que, he hasn’t quite nailed it…because square does not translate well to pouty lips.

Mr. Eighthead (Two times a normal forehead) is wearing a shirt that says OZZIE.

He, and not Axel’s parents, made him come to see the play.

Gawd I hope Mr. Eighthead has no speaking parts to this arc.

I am guessing the lips will un-purse when the character relaxes and stops projecting what he thinks is a rebellious image. We might find out that “Axel” is a self chosen nickname affected for the same effect.

Axel probably was once an Aggie terrorist, who was sent to blow up a car.

He burned his lips on the tailpipe.

Axel is Fay’s Quill.

I don’t know what she sees in Axel. He looks like he couldn’t care less about anything. :\

Luann’s earrings look nice with her outfit. She’s starting to show some class.

Why do females (and males) make such horrid choices in who they want to be with?

Still find it impossible to believe that Fay was completely unaware of the existence of the Wizard of Oz movie. It’s everywhere in popular culture. She might never have seen it but there’s no way she never heard of it.

OMG! Fay just soiled her underwear!

Uh Fay? Since there is NO Way You’re gonna end getting this Axel LOSER, why don’t You make it a “Fun” Evening?

Take Your Script/Program, Pound Axel and His “friend” in the Heads and say:

“Sir? Would You please remove Your Hat? And You Sir, would You please remove Your Head? The Folks three rows back can’t, See!”

Okay Fay this is the time to gain confidence and not be afraid to talk to Axel, or his nerdy friend. Axel is not a punk by the way, just a kid, give him a break, and once he falls for Fay, its all over. They will eventually get married, have a million kids and die old together, after having a wonderful life. Hey starting the “Wonderful Life” holiday movie festival. Luann, having been there so many times, will help Fay, which is one thing we can count on. I don’t think Axel will be another Aaron Hill for Fay, but if so it will make her stronger, something she needs to get in contact with. Sweet, and even being a septuagenarian old fart of a dude I like the arc.

Much like the dog and bacon commercial.

Blech, Axel is back. I facetiously suggested yesterday that Quill may be coming back too. If I am right about that…. I apologize to everyone for that horrendous prognostication coming true. Quill = more blech.

I’m sensing Beavis and Butthead here…

Looks like Axel brought Quill – note the “Ozzie” shirt.

Clearly, Axel’s her knight in shining armor.

We know almost nothing about Axel. He is better looking than most of the males in this strip. If Faye likes him, he must have some good qualities. She must know a lot about him.

What a coincidence.

Interesting how Luann’s portrayal in these arcs with Fay have her being a lot more of a mature young woman …. maybe purposely in comparison.

Axel and friend: Doofus and Doofusier!

Reading through the comments, some are very superficial by commenters that normally give insightful opinions, a bit disappointing

Oh dear, and some of us were hoping that Axel would go away. But I recall someone on this comments board saying that when a character gets a name, then that person is here to stay (whether we like it or not). Only if they are shadows in the background (ha ha ) do we not have to worry about them sticking around.

Hey, what happened to JayBluE’s list? It was here earlier, but now it’s gone.

“What a revoltin’ development this turned out to be!” Fay, with Luann’s encouragement, was doing well until Axel and Ozzie showed up. Now, Fay is in danger of being set back in her development, unless she draws strength from whatever outcome this encounter has….

tomorrow: The room darkens, the Play starts, and Fay sneaks out.

I think Fay and Axel are meant to parallel Luann and Aaron Hill. I was really hoping for Fay to grow and perhaps get into theatre or some other talent. Now I fear we are just going to watch a re-run of Luann’s obsession w/ Aaron Hill, but with different packaging.

Au contraire. Seeing Axel while secure with Luann’s presence may be an important opportunity for learning social skills. In learned today that Axel is a Swedish name and noted for the first time that Axel is blonde. Not sure this is important to t he plot, just interesting.
