Very nice, Aaron. Always glad to have old friends visit on Christmas. Hope you’re having a great holiday season and that 2018 is a healthy and happy year. Thanks for sharing your gifts with all of us…keep doing what you’ve been doing.
READERS: Endtown is the product of the full-time work of a flesh-and-blood human being, Aaron Neathery. To continue giving us the comic we love, he has to have money coming in to pay for food and rent. PLEASE consider supporting him on Patreon. Every amount helps, no matter how little.
Merry Christmas to my companions on this journey to discover the mysteries of Endtown. Greetings to Aaron N. and your family, and thank you of the treat of seeing our good old friend Wally, Kirby, Chick and Irving! Would also love to see Holly and her family in her alternative reality, And to Walt and his friends, and Jake Jackrabbit and the rats, and all!
I did that to one of my Dress Blues Shirt when a General was going to inspect the 50th Tactical Fighter Wing. It’s a good thing I had some spares.Thank you so much Aaron for all the years of excellence you’ve given us and we all wish you a Merry Christmas and a very Wonderful and Prosperous New Year!
Did y’all notice that at the very top of the first panel is the word “Meanwhile?” This indicates that this is not just an off-topic or unrelated strip. While the story in Endtown is going on, Wally and company are somewhere in a place where there are trees and they can live in relative comfort on the surface. Aaron will probably bring us to that story soon.
While everyone is waiting for the next strip, here’s part of the latest newsletter.
Given that Grout, Endtown’s chief of police, is playing a significant role in this current arc, you may be interested to know that his character design and general personality are patterned after British comedian Will Hay. Hay’s usual stooges, the comedy team of Moffatt and Marriott, are likewise the inspirations for Harbottle (the goat cop) and Moffatt (the pig cop). Hay isn’t much known in the US, but of all the British comedians of the 30s and 40s, his films are probably the most accessible to an American audience. Here are his two best features (IMO), Oh, Mr. Porter! (1937) and Where’s that Fire? (1939). The latter’s “fire pole” sequence gives the Marx Bros. “stateroom sequence” from A Night at the Opera (1935) a run for its money for steadily rising chaos.
Shane Graytail: She’s no ditz. In many ways, I often think she’s the smartest one of the bunch! Among other things, Kirby seems to have the ability to see the so-called silver lining in every cloud – a talent that most others in this strip have long ago lost…
We do miss getting a glimpse of Holly. If Doc could go give her a short visit, they could have a short talk, without being a long arc, just a coming together of old friends, and to see how Holly is doing with her “family”. Once in a while I try to find the end of that, if it is real enough for Holly, it can be real enough for me. And also thank you Aaron for the graduation of the rats from their “childhood-teen years” when they were “Just barely big enough for their britches” to now as fully mature members of Endtown. I think the time when they were almost slaughtered got them to be allowed to be fully functioning characters, even though at the time, the poor fellow’s head scraped across the elevator floor.

Wait a minute. They’re living above ground? And there’s trees and snow, not a toxic wasteland? Where are they? Or is this a dream?

“It is mistakes, not necessity, that are the mother of invention.” —Maggie Righetti, Crocheting in Plain English
Kirbee has amply demonstrated the truth of that principle. Certainly she possesses a quality that ‘smart’ people sometimes lack: resourcefulness.
