$50 for two hours.

A one hour class and the first hour sitting in a loose robe so there won’t be any lines.

“Art Class,” as predicted.

Can I just put it out there that I LOVE Tara’s outfit?

Wow. I am really tired of Greg using this comic to play out his puerile adolescent fantasies regarding his own artwork.

It’s kind of sick, honestly.

But of course we knew that. How droll. Thinking of posing in Art class, Luann? $50 could get you a nice pair of panties from Souffle – the real one, from an online catalog, of course.

I would have held out for at least a grand…

And lets see who else is in an art class? Will this be fertile ground (no pun intended) for any of a number of new character hookups and new plot lines; or will it default to more of the same o same o ? i.e Luann’s life is boring. Gunther’s pathetic, Bernice is control freak who doesn’t have a life, Tiffany’s always in a crisis…etcetera

Please don’t let this end up as “Luann gets naked. Boosts self-confidence.”

So Luann mentions the $50 to mom.

Luann gets the courage to apply.

And mom is already signed up.

I don’t know this stuff – however I always assumed that students in the same college would not be nude models there. Ideally a nude model is someone you never met and never will.

Good work from Greg & Karen – they’ve created Tara, an extremely likable character. It’s not that easy – Good looking alone doesn’t do it. I used to say, “Oh No – Tiffany bragging again.” They took a while to warm us up to Tiffany – now we like her – faults included.

The return of Zebo can be heard in the distance. I can hear him. “Tara! Home. I’ll go home. And I’ll think of some way to get you back to pose for me. After all, tomorrow is another 50 dollars.”

It’s not about you, Luann.

Tara i hope you bought a good pair of shoes or heels or lunch with the $50.00

So will Luann find Tara the subject of her next art class?

Hang on a sec… Does Tara go to Moony or to Pitts Community College (where Lu goes and Zebo teaches)??? Well, at least, it wasn’t posing for an “adult” mag…. Anyway, I’m hoping Lu doesn’t follow suit. Now, bring back the Tiff/Souflee arc!

I know. I know. Tiffany had her allowance cut, and this is a way to make up for it. It works for me.

Meh. Standard life drawing fare in art school. You’re sketching as fast as you can before the model changes poses. Nothing to write home about.

Lord let me not get into religious or moral commentary, given the context of the internet, but posing nude for an art class is not a big thing, given Michelangelo has nudes in the Vatican, the artistic depiction of the human body is a very old and valid part of art history. Tara is avant garde enough to do it, more power to her! Does this mean that Luann might do the same thing, that it would be a way to get over her lack of confidence. So afraid of being made fun of, rather than charging ahead and taking a chance. Break her boundaries. Will she bite? Those people whose opinion I am trying to avoid commenting on, would pop a cork if Greg should do that with Luann!! You go Greg!!

I know a professional artists model. Sometimes he poses nude. Old, fat guy. He says they like him as a model because old fat guys are hard to draw.

So let’s see the drawings.

That’s it. I’m enrolling in a university art class.

I’d pay 50 bucks.

Tara needed to $50 to go to the next performance of the Chippendales. She’ll talk Luann into going with her. O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!

Luann can’t tell if Tara enjoyed the posing, or, the $50 more.

I would never pose nude, it would frighten the students.

As an art student we had to draw nude old men or women that were not what you call beautiful in any way.

I wonder if she followed that classic advice: dress for the job you want.

I am very curious to where this banter is leading…. but there are so many possibilities:

1) Will Tara try to coax Luann into modeling for the art class too?

2) Will this segue into an arc where Professor Zebo pontificates about the human form?

3) Will this, as Schrodinger’s Dog suggested in jest (still, even in jest, it is something I dread), be a mechanism for the return of Quill?

4) Will we get to see the return of Jack or Nil within this arc?

Perhaps there is, however, a bigger “philosophical construct” being portrayed for us here today. While many of us can sympathize with Luann’s nightmare of “getting laughed at” in regards to posing nude…. perhaps what Greg is trying to imbue in us is the notion that we should all strive to move beyond our fears. Luann’s expression of her fears in this case are perhaps a mirror into her soul about the deep seated fears she may be experiencing about life and her journey through it. The nakedness may simply be a metaphor of her anxiety about seeking (and not receiving) approval from others.

Well, I like this trend by Greg and Karen Evans into nude modeling. I’m a 75 year old man ( maybe a bit over weight, but not a “fat guy” ) and I pose nude in figure drawing classes at two of the local colleges. There is nothing lewd about it. The “nude” is an art form that goes back centuries. In the strip “Sherman’s Lagoon”, the hermit crab is frequently drawn with exposed buttocks. It will be interesting to see how Greg and Karen pursue this theme.

Poor Luann, always underestimating her attraction. And no, she doesn’t have to pose nude to prove she’s desirable.

I’d liked to have seen Jack’s and Nils’ turned in efforts. Luann’s too, but apparently, she wasn’t there.

I remember taking drawing classes in college using nude models, none of which were as cute as Tara or Lu.

Community college has drawing classes?

Yup! Had several at B.C.C. (Ft Lauderdale) Came in late during a nude drawing. Had to walk pass the model. Was very awkward!

Note to the faint of heart, yeah, this is directed to you SOMEGUY3, if you ever make the mistake of opening a R. Crumb comic, you better have the paramedic’s standing by.

Me naked in front of art class is THEIR worst nightmare.

It’s how I scare off burglars, as they run off screaming, “My eyes! My eyes!”

She got $50, and was offered $200 more for a private sitting. Naw, Greg would never do that.

In this new storyline, there’s only one way Luann hasn’t come out so far looking much more tasteful and more appealing than Starr: Luann is both whiny and sour (in words and in facial expressions).

Am I wrong to believe the dream of being publicly naked is the biggest dream-related cliche in fiction, and using it here displayed laziness or lack of imagination? Can anyone here say they have actually dreamed about being naked and, consequently, embarrassed? I never have.

Tara’s attitude and demeanor are far more typical of college art students than Luann’s. And, BTW, not just the young and attractive get hired as life-models in art classes. Old and wrinkly is also challenging and interesting for aspiring artists. And the pay is not bad for the work!

@LIAM AISLE: You may have a very old view of what ‘community colleges’ do. The Seminole County community college art students have a gallery where they display paintings, sculpture and pottery, and invite the public to showings. The music students give classical and jazz concerts. The science students invite the public to use their telescope periodically. The hospitality students provide meals to fundraising events. ‘Junior College’ is far removed from high school, these days, and provides a good starting point for a lot of kids who either have not yet decided on a major, or really can’t afford the costs of 4 year colleges…

If this is one of Zebo’s classes, why isn’t Luann in it already?
