I guess this means that when we last saw Axel observing a play, that kid sitting him with him was not his friend but his chaperone.

Well I don’t think anybody called this one. If it’s the end of the arc, I feel like I went to a movie where the power went out ten minutes before the end.

I’m thinking Axel got into some trouble with a capital “T” and anywhere outside of school he has to have an escort or he violates some court order. Kid, What did you do?

Feffleflubb!! See I never should ever bet even for no money in a comic comment page. I had 3 to 1 he would ask her, and 4 to 1 she would be so embarrassed she would have a hard time accepting. Well blew the 3 to 1, and while the 4 to 1 was kinda okay, the real embarrassment was Axel’s. One thing is pretty clear: he likes her, but he is not some delinquent, as some have commented, HE needs a chaperone. Oh so exquisite Greg, Ms. Garcia (I think it might be Ms, or Mrs?). Anyway all Fay’s problems are solved, and given he already charmed Ms. Garcia, I bet she would be the perfect chaperone. Oh there I go again, fefflebubb!!

Ok, I wasn’t expecting this. I don’t think he’s on probation. I think he just has parents who won’t let him date otherwise. The kid with the pose of being cool and aloof is actually over-mothered. As is Fay.

End of arc? Maybe, but then Luann would be back on the unemployed list and we might return to the thrill-a-minute Mr. Gray.

Is Alex wearing an ankle bracelet?

He must really want to go out with her if he’s willing to broadcast that bit of information so loudly…

So we will spend next week doing what? Trying to talk Luann into a clandestine chaperone job? Talking the mom into a chaperoned movie date; whoever the wet blanket may be? (Don’t worry, it’ll be Luann.) And the date prep.

Then the next week we’ll get the date at the Fuze. Then the next week we’ll get the consequences from the date. Then the next week we’ll get the start of an arc totally unrelated to anything involving: the wedding, Tiffany, Gunther, Jack, Tara or anything else we’ve been waiting for. (Sigh)

In other words – he isn´t as tough as he makes himself out to be. Or his true self is more what we saw during the play.

Some comments about over-mothering, but I think it is reasonable to not allow dating at 13. Of course my daughter would say she was just hanging out with friends. I have no idea what went on. haha.

Hopefully Axel isn’t being just mean. He was mean to Luann & Pru when the theater camp was a bust. Saying CHAPERONE so loud might have been something he came up with to embarrass Fay. I hope we find out that’s not it.

Lookit Fay in the second frame. I think she passed Flirting 101 already. Very sweet.

Off topic, but I’m wondering if anyone else is having this issue. Today maybe 1/4 to 1/3 of the icons that show which comic strip is there show an icon of Garfield! The actual name of the comic still shows, thank goodness, but it’s odd that so many have Garfield instead of their usual icons. It’s not causing any problem that I can see, but I just wondered if anyone else has had this happen?

I was wondering what was going to happen if he said yes. There is no way Faye’s mother would let her go on a date. BUT, I wasn’t expecting this. If perhaps Axel is only allowed to date with a chaperone, Faye’s mother may be okay with it.

And btw, how do kids who don’t drive go on dates anyway? Don’t they need someone to drive them?

Minor detail, but …

The colorist didn’t do the continuity-thing today. Yesterday, the strip had Fay’s top with darker fringes at the collar, wrist bands, and bottom. Today, it’s all the same Spock- blue throughout! Oh, well.

Fay (afterward): “OK, then. Now, on to Bachelor No. 2!!”

There is alway a mocking guy with an orange backpack in middle school or high school.

I vote for Knute to be chaperone.

Fay should stay and let him finish his sentence instead of walking away. She is not very good at communicating.

Well, well, well. Whaddya know? Fay isn’t the only one with Parent Problems, as it turns out. Axel is also on a tether. Maybe this whole thing will work out in the end. Could Mrs. Garcia and Mr. Axel’s Dad both be single parents and end up more “together” than the kids?

He NEEDS a chaperone, or is REQUIRED to have a chaperone?

“Chaperone” here is undoubtedly a euphemism for “bodyguard.” The issue being that other children probably want to beat Axel up because his obnoxiousness, immaturity and physical ugliness offends them beyond endurance.

Let’s not forget that Axel is a child. What is he? 11 years old in the 6th grade?

Anyone else notice the event to which Faye invited Axel? The /i/summer/-i/ film night. Since it is right now not quite halfway through May, Faye is inviting him to something that will not be happening for at least three weeks.

That’s more than likely a couple of months in Luann Comic Strip time. New arc a comin’, or an old one rejoined.
