very special indeed is the woman who can ‘listen’ to a man and truly be interested in what he is saying.for that matter very special is any person who actually will ‘listen’ to someone else talk and truly pay attention to what is being said. especially if the other person’s conversation/subject is not of interest to them.
She’s heard it all before, dozens of times. But Arlo seems to be spinning a yarn about a nice dining experience or a wishful one. When Janis looks away, the fantasy collapses. One wonders what distracted her.
Poor, poor Arlo! It is obvious that Janice is not in love with him anymore but he just doesn’t see it. I think she loves him but in her mind she believes she can do better. She longs for stimulating conversation, adventure, excitement, etc and feeling her youth slipping away she knows that her chances of finding these things are fading fast. She hates her life and mundane existence yet is afraid to take a chance. She feels trapped…and she feels guilt. It isn’t fair to Arlo – for she knows she has grown distant – but what can she do?? She is confused and becoming more resentful towards Arlo with each passing day. How much longer can she hide her feelings from him?!
Interesting how things have changed. In the past, Janis was an unstoppable talkbot, and she easily became upset if Arlo didn’t absorb every word of her interminable monologue.
I explained to my wife that I couldn’t decide if the waitress’ attire was designed to make me look at her long, shapely legs or her cute and very mobile rear. I didn’t want to hurt her feelings by ignoring whichever, so I was just going to have to give both my attention. Ever since she has suggested the lady’s probable intention so I wouldn’t get eyestrain again.
My opinion isn’t based only on todays strip( as some simpletons seem to think ) but rather from years of reading. If you haven’t noticed the change in Janice then you haven’t been paying attention. This was merely my attempt at explaining her “coldness”. Only my opinion. I seemed to notice it after Gene moved out and started his own life. If you too have noticed this I would love to hear your opinion. Put it out there for discussion
Husband and I are married almost 39 years. Before that we were engaged 2 years and before that dated for 4 years and knew each other a year before we started dating – that’s 46 years. I sometimes forget that I did not know him when he was a boy as I have heard the stories about him so often. Similarly if I go to tell him a joke of my dad’s – he knows it already.
I think this is where Jimmy is going with this.
Does it mean that I am bored with husband – or he with me – no. Does it mean we love each other any less – quite the opposite.

I think the manager just called a relief fantasy image in from the bullpen.

Same joke old joke used dozen of times, but this time Janis is the one not paying attention. Tomorrow, she’ll complain that he never talks to her.

Maybe Janis was distracted by the removal of the Flowers?!

Role reversal for me, when my wife starts talking and talking on and on about her work place.

The open door to the public bathroom in frame 2 derailed the fantasy. Make sure the door is closed.

Just because Janis has already placed her order, doesn’t mean she can’t take one last glance at the menu.

That’s a very clever way of saying “you’ve told me this before – a dozen times”.

If she’s heard it all, I’m sure Arlo could find someone who hasn’t heard it all. That could be an interesting twist to the strip…

(She’s a good and helpful wife.)
