FWIW, moats were not to prevent attackers from running up to the wall, but to make tunneling difficult. A besiegers’ tactic was to undermine castle walls with tunnels shored with logs, later burning the wood to make the wall above collapse. Moat water would flood such tunnels, pumps adequate to deal with that not yet invented.

To bridge that moat could be a long drawn affair!

You could argue about it but clearly it’s a moat point.

“No running, no horseplay, and absolutely no peeing in the moat.” Seriously, you need to keep an eye on them or they’ll behave like barbarians.
Bilan over 6 years ago
The cleverness of that tactic is offset by the fact that the drawbridge extends only halfway across the moat.

They forgot to mention the moat piranhas on the sign.

I visited some castles and many were small. The whole village would reside in one during attacks. Couldn’t have been much fun.

I dunno – it’s been my experience that pretty all senses of security are false.

Not a real moat unless it has crocs or some kind of water-dwelling monster.

I could go political here with mention of a certain Asian leader but since everyone has kept it clean, I will defer.

Now I could be wrong, but that drawbridge doesn’t seem long enough to span the moat. Maybe that’s why they need a lifeguard.

Is the lifeguard looking at his iPhone? If he is ,then he is NOT paying attention.
