I guess Elly was also dead on her feet all day: getting the kids ready for school, picking them up from school, stopping them form arguing with one another, making their dinner, etc., etc., etc.
I guess he considers that TV dinner to be his hot meal. He’s not in his recliner, the dog is, Elly didn’t serve him and the “music” is a loud TV show. At least the kids aren’t fighting for once.
Husbands tend to think their housewives do nothing all day but watch TV and send children outside to play all day (Elly does that, though). In reality, a mother is a full-time job and more strenuous and tiring than the husband’s job. John is wise not to complain that he did not get his hot meal, his back rubbed, listen to music or sit in his recliner although he could have kicked Farley off it.
I have learned if I don’t know whether I am more tired or hungry that I should not eat until I am ready for bed, because when I do I am just dog tired.
Elly may have done a lot today, which is why she is asleep. What about the kids? Do they play any sports? Are Michael involved in Boy Scouts and Elizabeth involved in Girl Scouts? Did they help Elly around the house? What is their excuse?
Since Elly is most always a super mom, I think if she’s napping and serving up a TV dinner, she is seriously tired, too. Sorry, Doc, but you’re not the only one deserving of care in this family.
One out of four, ain’t’ bad…yes the plate looks like a TV dinner tray, but it might be a regular plate….
I have a set of those plates made out of china and we use them on picnics…so for all we know since Elly knew that he would be late, she portioned out a dinner for him, so that it would not be soggy and/or dried out by the time he got home…and after the rest of the family finished eating, they got on with their other activities….it reminds me of the time when my kids were of that age, and my husband would call that he’ll miss supper, and say that we not wait with supper… BTW, it doesn’t take but a minute to make such TV dinners from one’s leftovers and freeze them, and they are ready for you when you are detained and don’t feel like ordering out…

“One out of four ain’t bad.”
I am not sure which one that is. I don’t see that he got any of them.
1. Elly doesn’t rub his back.
2. He has what appears to be a frozen dinner, so Elly didn’t serve him a hot meal, especially considering she is asleep. The microwave probably did.
3. He is not sitting in his recliner.
4. He is not listening to soft music.
The only way he gets one out of four is if John considers the microwave to be his loving wife.

Kick Farley off the furniture. They’ve done it often enough in the past, why not today?

The best part of his day was leaving work and anticipating what he was going to get when he arrived home. The reality; not so much.

I heard the song “Morning Train” by Sheena Easton on the radio today. Then I read this and figured that is John!
