Things are starting to happen and Splitface really does look different (and rather gruesome) as we see him clearly for the first time since his most recent accident.
One, as we saw last week, yet another excuse to draw Flattop. With all the people Mike and Joe have brought back from the dead, why not just bring Flattop back from the dead and get it over with!
Bonus: They might have to bring back the pair of docs and the Sparkle Plenty!
Two, yet another kill duh Twacy setup. Okay, so he’s probably after Zelda, but I’ve long lost track of whatever Mike and Joe are trying to do with this story.
On a positive note: Artwork is superb, as usual. Especially whatsisname in the last panel!
This has got to be the most gruesome looking villain during the Staton/Curtis tenure. I’m surprised that they could go this far after we never got to see Abner Kadaver’s real face clearly.
So what can Tracy do about Zelda going to dinner with Jack Magnus? That’s a private matter unless Jack gets so sloshed that he’s a candidate for a public intox or DWI arrest – Wait, I see a scenario where at Zelda’s request he gets into costume and they go to Zelda’s place for some “play acting”, Splitface arrives on the scene and seeing them, realizes he has a twofer. And then…
i guess that explains the “SPLITFACE” moniker.. which is a shame because Tulza WAS a great character before. Mutilating him even more is just a forewarning that he wont make it out of this story alive.
Makes you wonder what Mike has against classic Tracy villains?
Measles, dead.. Mumbles and BB Eyes, haven’t seen from them in YEARS… Mrs Flattop (legacy) dead… Posie Ermine, dead… Mindy Ermine, dead (well, technically un-dead) Moon Colony, dead… Mushroom Lady, gone.. I think the only classics that he has left alive are Pouch and The Mole
I’m glad Sam had such a good time at the play. Tracy also seems amused. However, I would have liked to have seen it as well rather than hear Sam’s description.
Also, it is none of Vitamin’s business who Zelda has coffee with (nor Tracy’s). Zelda is a grown woman and no angel. She has previously been shown to have affairs with married men.
He seems like a bit of a tattle-tale today. Why didn’t we see Magnus and Zelda flirt and leave with each other rather than hear Vitamin’s description of it?
Talk, talk, talk. A picture is worth a thousand words.
The image of Splitface in the final panel says more to bring interest and excitement to the episode than all the yakking in the other panels.
So, a little off-topic: Besides today having the 400th Lum and Abner strip published, there is a Laurel & Hardy movie “Stan & Ollie” out this weekend – with a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes! I wonder when that Deacon & Miller strip will come out…What’s that? Deacon and Miller are fictional characters and the strip is fictional too? ROFL j/k
Not since the heady days of pre-Comics Code grimoires (early 1950s) have I seen such a horrible, monstrous monster as the all-new and uglier Splitface (last panel)!
And while the Old Thespian might be over-(re)acting in regard to Zelda’s dinner with Alcoholic Jack, it still will turn out to be a Good Thing if Tracy (and Sam) agree to assuage his fears and “chaperone” them and in the process intercept and thwart the 3-in-1 Monster….

A man of strife. He killed his wife
Black crows he once did train
Zelda the Great escaped that fate
Yet still she felt much pain.
Widow Steel thought love was real
Learned late she was so wrong
Tulza Tuzon is a fiend
He sings a bitter song.
His ugly side he does not hide
‘Tis there for all to see
His face is split. He is not fit
In hatred he takes glee.
A mind so vile, and all the while
Mutters obscenities
This man of hate in no way great
Such rank affinities.

’Tis a fact
Vitamin looks like a rat
Who’s face is covered in fat
I say again, ’Tis a fact!
’Tis all I got
Which is not a lot
’Tis time to go
There’s way too much woe!

So, is that his SCALP that we see, or his SKULL? What could have caused THAT?

I get it – we’re trying to avoid copyright issues with DC Comics by throwing in a little Phantom of the Opera along with it!

Hardly a police matter, at least until Magnus decides to drive drunk.

The past three days have been some very uneven continuity. Back-to-back, they seem completely non-continuous.

Mike Mazurki (Splitface) rolls over in his grave. BTW, enough “classics” how about creating some new villains?
