My uncle died in an assisted care home (nervous breakdown; if you knew my aunt ……). She called to tell me he was gone and mentioned she was taking one of his old suits out of the closet, where it had been hanging for DECADES, to the funeral home. I had visions of poor Uncle C. being buried in a zoot suit.
This reminds me of a story I once heard. An old man, whose body was ridden with cancer, had chosen (with his family), to spend his final days at home. As he was lying in bed, perhaps just days away from death, he detected the beautiful aroma of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. His favourite! “What a good wife,” he thought, as he somehow summoned the energy to get up from his deathbed. Slowly, gingerly, with the last of his strength, using the wall for support, he made his way down to the kitchen. Then, he saw it! A huge plate of chocolate chip cookies. With his last bit of energy, he reached out with a bony, gnarled hand. Suddenly – smack! – his hand was violently slapped away. “Don’t touch those,” his wife screamed, “they’re for the funeral!”

Old funeral parlor trick: They cut the back seam of the suit and it fits fine. Nobody is looking back there.

So if I can’t fit into it, I won’t die and have to be buried?

If I were him, I’d get the hell out of Dodge immediately. She’s definitely suspicious.
