What’s with the Charlie’s Angels copycat? Is Tom’s identity kept a secret for a reason? Is he someone we already know and would be surprised or what? Is he so ugly (somehow I don’t think Ann would be with him if he were ugly anyway)? Is he of different ethnicity from Tiffany? From the black hair, he could be Asian or Hispanic. For heaven’s sake, Greg, it is getting silly.
I went to school with a lot of kids who were there at school with the full expectation that they were going to be taking over their parents’ business. (These kids were the worst students, by the way). Nevertheless, I can easily see Tom be happy that his daughter is headed in that direction instead of pursuing frivolous careers like acting and modeling. His embrace of his daughter is the most affection we have ever seen him show to her, so clearly he has been waiting for her to take the steps that would allow her to take over his business.
He’s probably had a face-lift so as to compete for business against younger college guys and doesn’t want anyone to know he has a daughter Tiffany’s age.
Tom hugs Tiffany only after she tells him she wants to be a mogul like him… It’s so nice to see Tiffany smiling happy, but I can’t help but think that a father who shows real affection only after his daughter seems to want to imitate him is horrible. I wonder if Tom was away from her because Tiffany reminded him of his ex-wife. Maybe now that she wants to imitate him, Tom will be closer to her? By the way, Ann did really a good job with both of them.
Verrry Interesting… We’ll have to see how this develops. I’m just hoping that Mordy isn’t right and that Tom is planning to marry Ann. That would just kill it for him and TIff, I think.
Hopefully, at least, her going into business will get daddy to shell out for her dorm room over the summer, if nothing else.
I think I may need to visit the chiropractor later today for treatment of my whiplash. The abrupt story arc change has made my neck sore as hell. :)
A plethora of comments from me today as I have been unable to access a computer the last few days:
1. I am all for the camping trip with all SIX of the folks. I think it would be a huge amount of fun! I hope Greg actually does write/draw that story arc out for us to read!!!!!!
2. With today’s rather abrupt departure to Tiffany and her dad, Tom “Cat”…. I fear the camping adventure may only occur “off camera” or if it happens for our view, it may not be until August.
3. In regards to today’s story…I am REALLY surprised that ’ole Tom “Cat” Ferrell actually did meet with Tiffany without Ann around…. I would not have expected Ann to “allow” that…. and I would not have thought Tom “Cat” would have cared enough one way or the other to meet Tiffany without Ann.
4. That Tom really loves Tiffany’s new choice of major is no surprise as for as far as Tom’s character is concerned…. this reflects well back on HIM…. “See, my daughter finally came around to see things the way I see things and is trying to be a chip off the old block.” and all that sort of rubbish. To HIM it makes him feel good about himself.
5. I am still suspicious that Tom is meeting Tiffany without Ann… and this leads me to believe he is there to tell Tiffany he is engaged to Ann and that he and Ann are setting off for the Caribbean for the rest of the Summer.
6. FINALLY…. the “loving” and “fatherly” aspect of Tom “Cat” Ferrell at the moment…. IMO…. is just a slick, varnished facade that Tom can pull up at will when it suits his needs. It will disappear after whatever bombshell he is really there to reveal to Tiffany.
Tom is giving Ann the credit for Tiffany spending less. Looks like Tom is not giving Ann the heave-ho anytime soon. I’m still waiting for the extended family dinner at Irma’s.
With all of the joy We have for seeing Tiffany being hugged by her father, We’re overlooking one very important thing: Tiffany is STILL working at the Fuse! Either she’s “adequate” as a waitress, or lousy and the management is looking the other way…….,
Woah! Did Ann suddenly say something complementary about Tiffany to her father? Does this strip signal a rapprochement between Tiffany and Ann? I don’t think I could handle that!
Tiffany will be bored with the actual study of Business and therefore she will not be any good at it. Tiffany has skills and she should concentrate on using those. She is good at self promotion and modeling.
The mystery of Tom Farrell! Well at least he seems to be happy about something his daughter did, and his telling her and hugging her is obviously a delight to her. Something she dearly needs, affirmation from Daddy. Now she has to follow-through, and my advice would be to go for it, as if there were no daddy she is trying to impress. Is it significant that the meeting is at the Fuse? Les works there too.
Dad’s being happy and proud about TIFF’s goals is one thing; financially backing her business is another. Is he still paying for her college courses and board?
I wonder how Tom got away from Ann? Tiff wanted to meet her dad without Ann and he did that. Does Ann know they are meeting or did Tom lie to Ann to get out?
Could it be possible that Tiffany’s surprised smile is quite genuine?! Maybe, she has STILL just been wanting her dad’s real attention, not him being some walking bank account? Maybe, she’s now figuring out that she wants to be successful and happy in her life? True … she has been anything BUT perfect before, and while she has a long way to go, she’s at least taking steps in a better direction.
All that said, the ‘other shoe’ may drop … and it IS only Monday!!
Save panel # 4. It’s a look of unexpected happiness on Tiffany’s face. An emotion rarely seen in this comic strip, it will be cruelly stripped away tomorrow. On a lighter note, I want Tom to turn around so we can see that he has goggle eyes and a nose like Knute’s.
Tiffany has benefited from friendship with Dez and Bernice. Through Bernice she’s become a little more of “realist”; now Dez needs make her into a bit more of a “spiritualist” (less of a materialist). Maybe Tiff’s alliance with these two will keep her from walking totally in her dad’s shoes.
It appears we are fated never to see the face of Tom Farrell. So be it. If only he can become reconciled with his daughter, Tiffany, and (even more) see through the charade of (not so) Cheap Trick Annie Eiffel-Awful…
My prediction: panel one- Tom and Tiffany are saying goodbye.panel two- Tom is at the door-ready to leave. A bubble has the words “Mr. Farrell – may we talk to you”third panel- standing in front of Tom is: TJ Ox Les and Mr. Gray.the story is left in a cliff hanger…again.

And of course Ann will probably take a “tough love” credit for the apparent reconciliation. Deservedly or not.

I love Tiffany’s face in the last panel, BTW. That girl is starving for parental affection.

Finally, Tiffany connects with her dad, thanks in no small part to Ann Eiffel.
Maybe, she isn’t such a Bi……, (A-HEM) WITCH, after all.
Now, what could POSSIBLY Ruin Tiffany’s Triumphant scene?
Tom having an “announcement” of his OWN, maybe?
Like He and Ann are getting married, perhaps?
At any rate, it may be significant that this scene is taking place at the Fuse and not some other restaurant, this time.
Especially if Ann barges in And finds her arc nemesis, Old Smiley, running the Cafe.
HEY!! THIS would be a perfect time for Tiffany to introduce Tom to his future step son Les, who’s washing dishes in the kitchen!!!
