Pig’s mom is a LOL—Little Old Loser, according to Pig. But death can be funny. See all the deaths in the Final Destination movies, and read about every death in each volume of “The Darwin Awards”, and I am sure one will agree. And finally, there is “fun” in “funeral”.
“She’s gone, gone, gone, I don’t know if I am happy I don’t know if I am sad, cause she’s gone, gone, gone, I don’t know if I’ll cry, I don’t know if I’ll die laughin’…..” —Bad Company, or Even Worse Company, in this case.
I don’t use “textspeak”, so quite often I have to actually look up some obscure 3 or 4 letter shorthand acronym to figure out what the heck someone is trying to say!! FOMO ?? SMH? IMHO??
I’ve seen this joke before. Apparently, a women sent the LOL out at the end of a group text announcing the death of a family member. I’m insisting they use LOL, LMAO, and/or ROFL somewhere in my obituary, at least once.
I see teenage kids with team shirts with DILLIGAF or BOHICA across the back instead of their name. Mom: “But your name is Sharron. Who’s Dilly?… It means WHAT!!!” (Before you Google them be warned those are rude acronyms).
Many of these acronyms predate the days of phone texting. LOL for “laugh out loud” has been around since the days of Usenet in the ’80s. I definitely remember seeing it on Internet message boards and forums in the ’90s.
There are 26 capital letters, so there are 26*26*26 = 17,576 TLAs (if you add one and two-character acronyms, it gets up to 18,278). My online dictionary has almost 236 thousand words, which means that it has approximately 13 times as many distinct words as there are distinct "LA"s… and of course most TLAs refer to multi-word phrases such as “Losers Often Leave”. Naively, then any given acronym is overloaded with something like 2200 meanings. Talk about ambiguity! (reality: More likely between a dozen and a thousand)

Back in the day, Pig’s mom wasn’t very nice to him so her “laughing out loud” at him wouldn’t be surprising.

That must have be Pig’s neighbor Jim who was a vegetarian, went to the gym every day, cycled with Jef, and had the perfect BMI.
Didn’t you hear, he slipped off his treadmill and hit his head as he was rushing to take his quinoa off the stove before going to work as a clown.

Why do so many people think LOL = lots of love? It has NEVER meant that.
