Tracy lost his sense of humor. This is the perfect time to request, “Sam, call me an ambulance.” And after Sam replies, “Okay, you’re an ambulance,” Tracy could have been in stitches all the way to the hospital… Or maybe the stitches are after the hospital.
1- Hey! The reflection of Tracy’s coat in that globe thing looks like a one-eyed smiley face. 2- Tracy! You gotta see this! A one-eyed smiley face. 3- No, stay there. If you move it will disappear. I’ll take a pic instead. TRACY: (groan) Idiot…
TODAY’S strip should have been YESTERDAY’S at last then we would have some movement in this thing.
Methinks Tracy might be experiencing a tad bit of temporary paralysis since his wrist geenee/wizard thingy is so visibly close but he is unable to reach it.
Luckily for him Sam also has no life and is leaving work in the dead of night as well, and stumbles across our ventilated “not really the star” of the strip!
Excellent start to this tale. The two-day teaser introduced us to “Little Doc” and his assistant, Sally. For Tracy to be the victim of gunshots at the outset makes for immediate action and tension. Sam comes to Tracy’s aid, which is exactly as it should be. Tracy needs a helping hand, and ever-dependable Sam Catchem is on it. A captivating set up.
Sundays strip…. panel ones tracy leaving HQ in the dark during a downpour (which would obscure any sort of video surveillance). over his RIGHT shoulder (left side of the staircase) is the lightpost.. he is closer to that one than the other on the right side of the stairs. In silhouette behind him we see a police officer either already inside and passing the frint doors, or ascending the stair to go inside, and between tracy and the officer… but at the bottom of the stairs, a silhouette of a man wearing a non policemans hat with what seems like a briefcase tucked under his arm
panel 4 shows tracy falling after getting shot.. he falls to HIS RIGHT clearly passing the lightpost behind him..which could ONLY be the post on the left side of the staircase to police HQ (because he wouldn’t have walked in a circle to be standing in front of the one on the right, then turned again to fall to it’s left). Last panel shows him facedown on the pavement in the pouring rain.
Now.. given all THAT, I am going out on a limb and saying that without a shadow of a doubt that Doc was the figure with the “civilian’s hat” on in silhouette with the briefcase under his arm, and that the cop was either going IN or already in and just passed by the front doors. Tracy was shot as he TURNED TO HIS RIGHT, PAST THE LIGHTPOST to possibly head towards his car when Doc shot him.
Add in to that, the image of Sam from today’s strip. The lightpost is CLEARLY on his right, and Tracy is on the ground IN FRONT of him… which would mean that Sam ALSO had turned to the right once getting off the stairs in front of HQ, to possibly head to HIS car as well when he discovered tracy.
Therefore, Doc did NOT shoot tracy in front of the HQ as you all surmised, but in fact waited til he turned AWAY from the front doors to shoot him.
Tsull2121, thanks that clears everything up. Now, please explain why there isn’t a hole in Dicko’s coat, and why he doesn’t bleed? Oh, and Neil has no Annie history today. I really miss that.
I’m intrigued by this turn of events and look forward to the story that follows.
I only hope it is not another revenge plot—“Tracy got my uncle now I’m gonna get Tracy. Nyah! Nyah!” How trite and unimaginative.
Constructing another plot like that is taking the easy way out. It’s easier to concoct a revenge plot by bringing in a relative of an old criminal (who coincidentally has all the same characteristics as his recently killed relative) than creating a new villain and devising a new crime which Tracy has to solve to apprehend the perpetrator—you know, like a detective story.
Regarding bullet-proof vests and body armour… Yesterday in Baltimore, a gun man attacked a methadone clinic, demanding one of the huge jars of methadone doses, and held a nurse hostage, holding a gun to her head…
The police were called and he attacked them… He was killed by a police sergeant and the policeman was struck by a bullet that hit him below the vest… He was rushed to the hospital trauma center in serious condition…
Also, the best can transfer the energy of the bullet to one’s body and has resulted in bruising and breaking ribs…
And in the movie :“Ronin”, Robert DiNero’s character gets shot when the bullet hits an area where the best didn’t cover…
It looks like Tracy wasn’t wearing a vest, but in Tracyland, one can never be sure that that’s the case..
Fine art today, with a startled and apprehensive Sam in panel’s 1 and 2, but an alive and lucid Tracy in panel 3. It is not clear how badly Tracy was injured, nor if he was wearing his bullet-resistant vest per typical police regulations. I think he will recover quickly enough to help resolve this case, regardless. As for Baby Doc, it would seem that this incident was personal, whatever his larger motivation may be….
If I could ‘do this over’, in panel two Sam would yell “Call the cops! Call an ambulance!” – Although it is likely that the other cops nearby have already done that. And Tracy in panel three would just groan.

Good morning™, officer downs !
Tracy can at least be thankful this didn’t happen in some swampy area where infection can be a major concern.

Sudden gunfire is cracking
Smiling lamp globe is cackling
Like the spectre of departed Méliès
From the place that is hot
He sees Tracy get shot
Brief joy in eternal malaise
…
First a sharp stab of pain
Now face down in the rain
Tracy don’t know what just hit him
But there’s no heavenly choir
Despite cowardly gunfire
Help’s on the way from Sam Catchem
…
No longer a little one
Grown-up Doc was behind the gun
Assumed Flyface’s criminal ways
But with dad long undercover
His son failed to discover
In Tracyville, crime never pays

Shot in the back in front of a well-lit police station headquarters… no excuses for camera footage to not be a factor in this case.
