Brown and Snyder will be popular choices, no error, but unless convicted criminals are off the table, let’s redress last year’s bad call and proclaim Larry Nasser the SJotY. Who’s more unworthy than someone convicted of molesting over 200 underage gymnasts?
I know I’m only supposed to vote for one person. I read the instructions. However, I am unable to decide among Jeff Luhnow, AJ Hinch, Alex Cora and Carlos Beltran. And I would take the Houston Astros, but that’s a group.I guess I will go with Alex Cora.
Wray was the owner and chair of Saracens, which is to European rugby union what the Patriots are to the NFL. Saracens won four of the last five English titles, and three of the last four European championships.
It turns out that Saracens cheated. Wray found what he thought were some creative ways around the salary cap by involving some of his players in business deals, meaning that the payments weren’t on the official set of books. However, Wray was caught for the second time this decade. Due to the excessive payments over each of the last five seasons, Saracens will be relegated to the Championship (second level) from the Premiership at the end of the season.
I wouldn’t bother. The jerks of the sports world aren’t doing anything important anyway. Being paid to play games simply is not an important activity.
“Let off some steam. You’ll feel better.” Huffpost.com says that “President Donald Trump has pushed his taxpayer-funded golf tab past $118 million on his 26th visit to Mar-a-Lago”. Harvard Medical School says “Total cost of attendance $95,055”. So, according to my calculator, Trump’s golf tab could have paid for 1,241 years of attendance at Harvard Medical School. Harvard says “The standard MD program at Harvard Medical School takes four years to complete.” Trump’s golf tab could have created 310 Harvard trained physicians. Donald J. Trump should be the Tank McNamara Sports Jerk of 2019.
Sports Jerk: Alberto Riveron VP NFL Officiating. So sorry, but when the DBs head rocks back on the push off by the WR, that is OPI according to the NFL rules. Riveron was a coward to not overturn the call.
Alex Cora. Yeah A. Brown was bad, but he didn’t taint an entire sport, an entire team, and a World Series, the way Cora did. (Yeah, this should be Sports Jerk for 2017, but we didn’t learn about it until 2019.)
NBA “commissioner” Adam Silver for supplicating himself to communist China after Rocket’s GM Daryl Morey tweeted support for Hong Kong protesters, something all Americans should support.
For SJOY, I nominate Robert Kraft of the New England Patriots. He signs AB to a 9 million dollar contract, then after 1 game with pats, another charge against AB is announced, Kraft gets cold feet and jettisons AB, but by league/players union rules, he has to pay the 9 million to AB. The pats did not have a deep threat all year long, and it cost them. Mr Kraft, please take a bow.
While I totally get that Larry Nasser warrants opprobrium, vilification, condemnation, my view is that his sins far exceed those intended to be singled out in the SJotY competition. So put me down for BELICHICK to commemorate his cumulative efforts to win by cheating in ways that go way beyond sign-stealing in baseball, bad as that is…
