Cornered by the hounds, little Fritz awaits the mounted police, who will finish him off with the coup de grace. “Stop und Fritz” – a cruel policy, but it DID reduce crime !

The Volk, at the end of their wits/ resorted to “Stop und Fritz”/ it’s brutal at best/ and a bit of a pest/ if YOU are the person it hits !

Very funny, very clever. Obviously the dogs had a change of heart when they cornered the endearing little boy!

P.S. A somewhat odd feature of this painting is the artist actually signed and dated it twice, first in 1834, and then in 1835 (keeping the 1834).
