Can someone please get the old Heart and Dean back. It what’s up with the long hair? Dean looks like a girl. If that is Dean. I’m still not sure.

Not liking the new look of my Heart in the city why the change ?

I agree the old look was much better!!!

I’m starting to get used to this art style, like having your favourite brand of cereal change it’s flavour slightly, and you start to enjoy it after eating it enough times.

All the whimsy is gone. Also, so are over two hundred followers since Monday.

I’ve never been in a drama club, but I have been in a school musical. They had sign up sheets outside the music room for a couple weeks, and then we had to audition. Acceptance was not guaranteed just because you signed up.

Imma be honest: I like the new artist.

Kind of like the new artwork but kind of busy on the panels. Filling them so that it is harder to distinguish the characters. But then again that seems to be Steenz’s style.

I just googled this . New artist just took over the strip . This is horrible ! Bye Heart . Good luck ! (you’re going to need it)

This may have been said already, but I haven’t read all the comments. It looks like Archie, the later years. Very same style and look. Not liking the new look, will be removing this from my lineup.

You know, while I like the new artist, I too have sometimes decided to stop reading a comic strip I no longer cared for. BUt I didn’t make a fuss about it in the comments. I simply stopped reading. Basic courtesy.

The comments on the strip two days ago are hilarious in retrospect.

Actually, today’s strip reads like the same old Heart of the City. It feels like a normal Heart story line. I still need to connect the art with the personalities.

From wiki – I also find the new art awful. Heart of the City is a comic strip by Mark Tatulli. It began syndication by Universal Press Syndicate on November 23, 1998, and is still running. Since April 27, 2020, Christina ‘Steenz’ Stewart has taken over the comic, making her one of the few female African-American cartoonist on the mainstream funny pages.

This style is too much like my daughter’s “babysitter club” graphic novels

Well, for me, this strip is now dead. It was fun while it lasted. I guess it’s time to go back to the beginning and catch up.

It’s day 3 people. If you don’t like it, it’s time to leave.

Apparently I’m even more upset about the new art than I thought because I actually dreamed about it last night.

First I hoped it was temp or a dream. Now knowing this a permanent change I realize it is a nightmare. This new look is horrible – this is not heart of the city in anyway shape or form. Since the new artist is drawing a new comic they should have new characters. RIP Heart, you will be missed. Hoping now that gocomics will add a classic Heart of the city or what I would name the Real Heart of the city page. If they do somebody please let me know for I am out of here.

It is literally impossible to tell these characters apart.

I miss the old Heart and her attitude; she was adorable!

Perhaps if we can see this in color, maybe that would help. The way they are drawn now, everyone looks that same.

Why the Cancel Culture, folks? It’s just comix. Heart and Dean are still at the center.

The art change is jarring, but so far the personalities are on point. But yeah, I’m having trouble adjusting to the characters’ looks. I may be trying to guess who’s who for a while.

Perhaps everyone should give it more than TWO DAYS before passing judgment. A daily comic strip is an ultra-marathon, not a sprint. Try keeping an open mind and approach it as a new feature. Mark Tatulli could have simply ended Heart of the City but chose instead to hand it over to new young cartoonist to carry it on in her own style. Give her a chance.

I loath the new look. The cartoonist has wrested the “heart” from the strip. Horrible. So much for what was one of my favorite strips.

it just need some color. It makes it much better. Hey GoComics get this in color! I liked Mark’s style but i also like Steenz’s style as well. HEY STEENZ, KEEP GOING YOU HAVE MY FULL SUPPORT! Mark trusted you with with Heart and that’s good enough for me.

It’s the hair that really irritates me. Heart and and Dean clearly have straight hair in the original comic, not this poofiness.

Comics are supposed to be funny or at least whimsical and a continuing story that could be compelling — not seeing this

Well, it is too soon for a verdict. The CalArts style is acceptable, but the characters look too similar – can’t tell them apart, and also a bit too different than Mark’s version. I’ll give it a few weeks to grow on me before I scrape it off.

“Prime real estate in the the year book”…I like that take on it, and alas, it is so true…sports and drama club were the main movers and shakers even in my day…

Well, this is a real shame. Another loss during the time of lockdown. It wouldn’t matter if this was an engaging comic or not…it was the art and characters I liked, and I’d even enjoyed the artist aging them a bit…but for it to be gone, just sucks. I won’t be following this new and different strip.

Damn….this is like having a good friend move away. Sorry to see you go. Just as I was sorry to lose Gus Arriola, Al Capp and Berke Breathed. For some things there are no replacements.

At least he’s still doing Lio.

There is a reason why Pibgorn, 9 Chickweed Lane and Alley Oop turned comments off. A lot of comments are just plain inappropriate. I include some of my own comments, I’ve made my share of immature and unnecessary remarks.

It’s time we start policing ourselves. We can support Mark without tearing down Steenz.

Listen, there was probably a lot of time and energy spent in this decision. No doubt Mark talked to a lot of people and looked at a lot of different work from them.

We’ve seen three days. We haven’t even had a full story arc yet. Give it time, I’m betting it’ll be worth it.

I don’t care much for the new look. I wasn’t a big fan of Heart, although Lìo is a favorite and will remain so. I’ll give it another week and decide if I want to keep following it. If I had to decide today, I’d stop.

Ok I understand the frustration. If you don’t like it it’s fine but how long are you going to continue To spew negativity? It’s ok That you don’t like it that’s perfectly fine but Some of you act like Steenz Came up out of kindergarten and took over the strip!

Taking over much beloved comic is not easy. If a legendary cartoonist like Mark trust her let’s not bash her! So if you want to Unfollow that’s perfectly fine but don’t disrespect the hard work that Steenz Has done to get to this point! I’m sure Mark didn’t just walk outside of his house and say “hey you! come to my comic!”

I have been checking some Steenz’s other work, it seams to work a little better in color. Let’s see what Sunday looks like. Might surprise everybody.

I’m hoping that this will urn out to be like some other comics that I was literally incapable of registering visually at first. Once they “clicked into place” visually I really enjoyed them, but for awhile it was the visual equivalent of listening to white noise.

There’s that nose again. Ugh! I’m out of here.

Heart’s reaction in the last panel is SO manga. And since I’m a huge manga reader, I’ma digging it!!

One thing is for sure, Steenz certainly isn’t afraid of the screentone. Don’t worry, I ’ll stick around for a bit. This strip is actually kind of funny.

I prefer the old Heart. She had style. This is too cuddly. And mom had a nice figure.

I have a feeling she’ll find her stride, if you guys give her a chance. Be patient! One question for Mark (if he’s still out there): has this been in the offing for a while? I had suspicions when the strip jumped forward to junior high that something was about to change, but I couldn’t put my finger on what or why. Were you preparing for this day all along?

Very sad to learn that this change is permanent. If you are going to change a strip completely just change the name as well and be done with it. This is NOT Heart Of The City. I’m done with this one.

I guess I have experienced the release of New Coke, new actors taking over iconic film roles, book series written by new authors, and other major changes to not be as upset as many others have here. I think the change could have been handled better and Ms. Stewart (Steenz) would be more welcomed. However, it is really just comics and as has been noted by others, we should be considerate with our remarks. Obviously Heart has been a comfort to many and abrupt change is jarring. I did like the original art but will give time to make my decision to continue following the new Heart. Patience may be rewarded.

If she’s going to be “Heart” you better learn to draw “Heart.”
