The rule I learned was “two plains and a fancy”, referring to the suit, shirt and necktie. You can wear a striped, plaid, checked or patterned tie, a striped shirt, or a plaid or pinstriped suit jacket, but only one of those things; the others have to be solid colors.
I think “three plains” was also discouraged. Looked too much like a uniform or something.
Over the years, “fashion” has put dots with stripes and paisley with stripes, etc. Seems almost anything goes. My Hubby did the same thing. Often he was quite a sight when we traveled, but he was comfortable. If he asked me, I’d make other suggestions. Can laugh about it now!
I know if she just used the correct term for the clothing (patterned and stripped) he would hopefully understand, but then it wouldn’t be funny now would it?

I hope Earl’s busy bottom doesn’t mean he is a man on the run!

If you see something you don’t like, don’t look. If you hear something you don’t like, don’t listen.

I wear what is comfortable. I care nothing for fashion. If you want to laugh at what I wear, then I at least made you smile.

I had a high school teacher who told me “A clash is class.” He’s still a friend and 50 years later, he’s still practicing what he preached.

Oy! Opal needs to explain in simpler terms…do not mix prints with other prints! Got it?

I am reminded of some of the pants I wore during the ’70s… Some of the shirts, too.

If you are wearing a busy top and busy bottom, doesn’t that make you a busybody?

I consider it sweet that Opal still hasn’t given up on giving social tips to Earl despite currently batting 0.000.

I have some busy bottoms and like to wear them-usually with unbusy tops, I am sad to say. I have folded and follow the rules-mostly.
