I noticed in a local paper the headline was “Police lose confidence in Mayor and City Council.” Talk about backwards! The police exist ONLY to serve the community. If the Mayor and Council who represent the people have trouble with what the police are doing, then it is the job of the police to change to fit the needs of the people. NOT the other way around.
I’ve taken to deliberately jaywalking in the middle of the street at some locations, because I’ve nearly been run down by people making turns without paying attention to a pedestrian trying to cross with the walk sign. At least in the middle of the street you only have to pay attention to traffic from the 2 directions, not all four at the same time.
I suppose the effort to obey the law and comply with the officers tasked with enforcing it can be quite stressful. I know I would like to do whatever I want whenever I want.
Then there was the bank robber who ran across the street and was able to plea bargain down to just the jay walking offense. So he says “does this mean I can keep the money?”
Not on topic, but it reminded me of summers at the Utah Shakespearean Festival, which occupied a campus that had oak trees and wide lawns trying to make the near-desert look like Stratford on Avon. They had to soak the grass every night to keep it growing green: if you crossed the lawns after a play you had to wait for or dodge the oddly timed oscillating sprinklers from one lawn to the next, or get sprayed.

Weird admiration for the Hong Kong folk who spray-painted the cameras who would be aiming for Pepper Spraying those who do not comply promptly.

There would be a lot less jaywalkers this way.

I think Miller’s complaining about how police seem to be overreacting too much, too many places. In which case I agree with him.

I don’t think even standing still will keep you out of trouble, nowadays.

One can tell a lot about the world’s mind-set by reading a variety of the comments on a variety of subjects. It’s a very interesting social study. :)

Wiley has rescued his muse. Good material lately, but a certain class of readers see mainly their own projections.

Just wear black hoodies and carry spray cans, and pretend you’re rioting. The cops will totally leave you alone.

Maybe instead of saying “defund the police” we should be saying “fund social services”.

I miss crosswalks being relatively safe places to cross the street.

You have it reversed. Keep moving. That is legal and typically left alone. Stand n place and block traffic? Yeah, time to break out the mace.
