Hobbes had cookies with Susie and Mr Bun at their first meeting. He seems to have had all the cookies himself while Susie’s back was turned. Susie once invited Hobbes to her birthday party and told him “You can bring that dumb kid you hang about with if you must.”Hobbes spent some time alone with Susie and then some time alone without Susie. He seems to have eaten Susie’s birthday cake while he was alone with it.
Kind of sad actually. I have only discovered this comic about a week ago. Just wondering, this little girl with the doll is pre school age? About 4 or 5? Because she doesn’t have any girl friends to invite to her party except the neighbor boy?
Standard Operating Procedure for kids back in the old days (this IS from 30 years ago)… you didn’t go and PLAY with boys (or girls if you were a boy) because you didn’t want to get caught. :-P
It’s true that Suzie often adopts a surly demeanor. But considering the abuse she’s suffered at Calvin’s hands, her indefatigable forgiving nature would’ve won me over years ago if I were Calvin.

Hobbes might teach Calvin some social skills after all (and also how to tie a Windsor knot).

Poor Susie, with an antisocial neighbor like that…

Never thought I’d see Suzie disappointed about not spending time with Calvin.

I remember kids saying members of the opposite sex went “to Jupiter, to get more stupider.” But Pluto is farther away.

Crash em, eat the cookies, spill the “tea” and leave. That’s how little boys attend tea parties.

Susie, next time serve tuna fish sandwiches.

The throwaway gag, “try not to breathe in,” seems more sensible today.

How do you crash a party you have been invited to?
jagedlo about 4 years ago
I was going to ask if Calvin was Owen Wilson or Vince Vaughn, but then I remember that was “Wedding Crashers”…

When you welcome “unwelcome” guests you can assure yourself of an interesting party. Not necessarily nice, but interesting.

Do not seat Hobbes next to Mr. Bun.

The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. I always fell for the milk and cookies trap.

Atta boy Calvin! You’ll go places in college and even further after that, like taking a ride in a paddy wagon.

How many years has Calvin been six years old? Just wait until he finally reaches 16.

I think Susie and Calvin will make a great Prom couple in about 10 years.

I always wanted to see Suzie’s Mr. Bun as she sees him, alive … the same way we see Hobbes. I don’t think it ever happened.

How does Calvin differ from Trump? Even the hair.
poco Premium Member about 4 years ago
still..well, calvin’s hair is not a comb over (back to front) and calvin is 6. Trump is a 74 year old that acts more like Moe.
