Happens to cats too, my calico has a bend at the end of her tail, which probably indicates she got stuck somewhere. Don’t know where, she had it when we got her from the shelter, she was a feral cat. And my sister once had a cat that had part of its tail removed because the tail had got jammed in the doorway. Ouch….
Ouchie. Poor Odie. When I was a kid, I accidentally closed a car door on my mom’s upper arm. It took a few weeks for the huge black and blue mark to go away. My mom was so embarrassed by it that she wore long sleeves until it was gone.
When I was very young, we had a window with the counterweight broken. The only way to keep it open was to put a stick in to hold it up. Our cat was sitting in the open window. When he went to jump outside, he knocked the stick out. The window fell heavily and caught the last few inches of his tail. The poor cat let out a ferocious wail and jumped away. Unfortunately the flesh on the end of his tail bone didn’t go with him.
Eventually the few inches of bare bone dried up and fell off. Other than looking like he had a stumpy tail, it didn’t seem to bother him.
I once closed a door on my dog’s tail. What has always made me sad is that he instantly started apologizing to me! It was like he was saying, “I don’t know what I did to make you hurt me like that but it must have awful and I’m sorry!” I did my best to make up to him but he continued to look guilty.

I heard about a horse race where they closed the starting gate on a horse’s tail and no one noticed until after the starting bell.
