I agree. Dogs have a tail for a good reason. Leave nature alone.

Docked tails is purely for aesthetic reasons of the owner… I can think of a few aesthetic improvement I’d like to make to those owners…

Lots of places don’t allow it any more. Same for ears.

I have never understood tail docking, and it certainly has no purpose today.

Banned in Catalonia. Sadly, many owners purchase their mutilated pets from other regions of Spain.

Confession: Never had a dog; don’t know much about them. WHY would this even be a THING? Sounds HORRIBLE.

Years ago when I was in the market for a Cairn Terrier, I went to look at a litter at someones home and they already had tails cut off. They tried to tell me that was standard. Um, no. Didn’t get my dog from them.

We have had two Briards with natural ears and one adult who came to us with docked ears (unfortunately, the norm in the U.S.) — guess which one had recurring ear infections? For our current briard we chose a breeder who makes prospective buyers sign a “no dock” contract.

Totally useless convention. Is purely for “looks” and for no other reason. Stupid.

If some people think it’s cute to get their dog’s tail docked, They should at least have to be castrated themselves first.

There are some breeds that do have ugly tails and so long as we seem to approve of designer dogs.. what’s the harm? I don’t imagine the dog minds it anymore than poodles mind being groomed into some truly bizarre shapes… Or, being neutered or spayed. If.. I were a dog and had a choice, I would gladly give up my tail.. to get some, tail.

I agree 100%, as well as ear docking, damaging the vocal cords to keep a dog from barking, and declawing of cats. All are horrendous, barbaric practices done for man’s ego.

A Doberman Pincher is a totally different looking dog when his ears aren’t lopped and he has his tail. They are actually cool looking…..
