Had to google two of the three names. (I know of Rachel Carson because she was mentioned in PEANUTS!)

Maria Mitchell was a 19th-century astronomer.

Sally Jackson is a scholar of “argumentation”(?)

Everybody picked 2 pages and someone to share the work with and my history book had over 200 credits of male contributing experts.

“Because men are important and better writers.”

And he doesn’t remember anything after that unwise statement until he awoke at the hospital…

I must admit, I am unfamiliar with these women. But I had a 1960s-1970s education.

‘Silent Spring’ & ‘the Sea Around Us’ by Carson were mandatory reading when I was in school and still relevant today. If I ever get back to Nantucket, the Maria Mitchell Association at the Science center there looks quite interesting.

All very good questions. The boys will form a committee to study those questions; the girls will bake cookies. (JUST KIDDING)

I know the other two, but who is Sally Jackson? A quick Google didn’t help.

My father was impressed with Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring, so I recognized that name. I had to look up the other two.

When I was a kid, there was a joke: The answer to Delta would be “Because it’s history. Women of the past would be studied in herstory.”

Sally Jackson was a professor of communication, not a scientist. Rachel Carson was a scientist who was repeatedly wrong and got many people killed and Maria Mitchell claim to fame was spotting a comet.

moe, larry, & curly…school history is inaccurate at best….battle of the Alamo came after Mexico freed her slaves…Davy Crockett was fighting to keep slaves in Texas
