I used to like the Mets as a kid (around the “Amazin’ Mets” era), until I was informed that I liked the Yankees. Okay, then. (Now I don’t really follow baseball— I have no one to guide me).
Did I miss the point, is this really about bands, or is it about propaganda, or did I just watch a program about how it is circulated around an echo chamber and accepted as truth because of repetition?
Reminds me of a quote I heard recently from a woman who researches bias. She overheard her young son and her father discussing cars. Her son favored big, boxy SUVs and her father preferred sporty little cars. At one point her father said, “I know it’s a matter of opinion, but your opinion is stupid!”
Fine, I’ll put my two cents into my faves: Aerosmith, Van Halen, Priest, Sabbath (only with Ronnie), AC/DC (primarily with Bon Scott), Scorpions (primarily with Uli), Rainbow (again with Ronnie), and (my all time favourite) Rush.
True story: Years ago when Elton John first became popular I made the mistake of telling one of his fans that I guessed he was OK. I told him I never listened to Elton because his voice sounded like fingernails on a blackboard to me. Boy, did he go off! I was mystified. I didn’t criticize Elton in any way. I just said his voice got on my nerves. That was just a personal quirk of mine and had nothing to do with Elton’s musical abilities.

Grateful Dead. Although I could be persuaded it’s The Who.

This is going to ruffle significant feathers, but I can make a case for ABBA being the best band ever.

Can we keep this orderly, people? Let’s just have one thread listing the best bands of all time. The correct answer is Cheap Trick, by the way.

By the time Nirvana was an option, Aerosmith’s best days were long behind them. “Dream On” is a contender for “Best Song Ever,” though.

BTW, RIP Neil.

Best band ever for me would be impossible to choose. Between Aerosmith and Zappa there is just so much good music. For this I’m truly grateful.

Humble Pie, Iron Butterfly, Mountain, Cream, Blue Oyster Cult, Bloodrock, The Who…..but I’ll give Aerosmith their dues!
