Tonight’s story is dedicated to the elderly among us – myself included:
An old man is getting ready for bed when he hears noises from the back yard. Looking out his back door, he sees three young men in his tool shed, packing his tools into their bags. So he calls 911 to report the burglary in progress.
“I’m sorry, Sir,” the 911 operator tells him. “We don’t have anyone available right now. We’ll send someone when we have a chance.”
Miffed, the man hangs up the phone and thinks for a minute. Then he picks up the phone and dials 911 again. “Hello, I just called in to report a burglary in progress a few minutes ago,” he began. “I just wanted to let you know you don’t keed to come after all. I just shot all the burglars; I think they’re all dead.”
Within minutes, several police cars screech to a halt outside his door and run into the back yard, where they find all three burglars in the act of stuffing their bags. As they’re led away in handcuffs, the lieutenant in charge says to the man, “I thought you said you shot the perpetrators.”
“I thought you said you didn’t have anyone available to respond,” says the old man.
Moral: never underestimate the wiliness and resourcefulness of old people.
So in nearly 47 years of feeding at the public trough (Patrick Leahy was first elected in 1974) the only notable accomplishments he has to his career to date have been as a movie extra WHILE he was supposed to be in his office
I didn’t know about the carrots being bad for rabbits (apparently it’s their candy due to the sugar content) but I do know that cheese is bad for mice. I’ve heard that it can cause them to overheat and die, but I don’t know if that part’s true.
Actually skippers are a family of Lepidoptera (moths and butterflies). Partly due to the absence of wing-coupling structure latest taxonomy places them as butterflies.
carrots are like candy to rabbits, they like the way they taste, but eating too much of them can make them fat. the green part of the carrot is actually much more nutritious to them.

Does the Irwin McD’s museum still offer tours despite the pandemic?

As soon as this pandemic is over and it’s safe to travel around, . . . a trip to Irwin, Pennsylvania will not be in the Top Ten of my list.

So Elmer is not Bugs’ real enemy, carrots are

How far down the line of succession do they have to go before they actually find someone QUALIFIED to do the job?

With a resume like that, why isn’t Patrick Leahy President instead of Senator?

Okay, the Patrick Leahy thing seems parallel-universey. But I’m SO embarrassed for the people of Irwin, Pennsylvania!

The Patrick Leahy factoid is a bit misleading. He has made five CAMEO appearances – he’s not an actor and has never been.

I had heard on the wadio that Cawots are bad for wascially wabbits.
The Home for Unsold Hamburgers.
It skips at 13mph.
Leahy was actually awake in 3 of them.

We tend to think of rabbits eating carrots most of all,
If not exclusively—a terrible cliché.
With carrots high in sugar, they should not be given often;
One in nine pet rabbits thus gets tooth decay.
The feral rabbits never even bother eating carrots,
Nor root vegetables of any other kind.
They ought to go for mostly grass and hay and leafy greens,
So how did carrots reach the forefront of our minds?
The answer is Bugs Bunny, who appeared in 1940
Chomping carrots as a man might smoke a cig,
In reference to a character Clark Gable played six years ago.
(The movie he was in is still quite big.)
It’s funny now to think how such a clearly loony icon
Shaped the way we’ve seen reality so long.
To think that even Disney took the Warner Brothers’ cue!
Let’s not perpetuate a notion when it’s wrong.
