Years ago I had a friend whose cat, one day, was watching a car race on TV. He kept going to the side of the set to catch them when the came off. He was very confused about there they were going.
Back in the early days of America’s Funniest Home Videos, there was a clip of a cat trying to catch race cars on a TV and seeming confused when she couldn’t. It’s still one of my favorites from the show!
Last panel made me laugh out loud. Living in the North Idaho panhandle, we have moose in our front yard, our back yard and often just lying down chewing their cud. They are HUGE and the idea of a moose on wheels just made me chortle. Georgia is so creative and funny!
Moose is not all that big in cat terms. I don’t think Yang ever saw one (a couple of times one came down from the hills to eat the peaches off my grandfather’s trees), but he had no compunctions about stalking horses.
The horses found his attempts wryly amusing.
We used to have a huge red-tailed hawk near my office that could have chased the cars on the freeway, but he was usually content to perch on a lamppost and count them as they went past.
Ummmmm…we know that Lupin has been inside a car, so presumably he should know that they’re big enough to fit three cats and two people. ♥ https://www.gocomics.com/breaking-cat-news/2017/05/17
Suddenly I’m reminded of a famous Snow Patrol song. ;-) Lupin: “If I meow here, if I just meow here, would you meow with me and just forget the world? Let’s waste time, chasing cars, with our paws…”
Panel 4 is absolutely adorable! I am loving it. I think poor Loaner Cat is going a bit blind. She’ll be 16 this year and when she moved in with us three years ago, she would be at the window for hours trying to chase the chickens next door. She doesn’t bother anymore. Then again, she could just be bored with them too. Who knows? She’s not saying…
My uncle once witnessed a cat stalking a horse. It snuck up to a little rise, leaped blindly and then, realizing its error in depth perception, turned 180 deg. mid air and fled.
My best friend had an indoor/outdoor cat who once tried to stalk a deer. He crept up behind it, his tail twitching, as he prepared to leap at the back leg. The deer glanced backwards and flexed his leg as if to kick the cat. The cat did the cat equivalent of whistling nonchalantly and acting innocently. “Me? Of course, I wasn’t going to attack you.” And he backed out of range of the leg really fast.
Another real moose story: One year I was driving an old International Harvester truck along the Gunflint Trail in northern MN, at night. The windshield in this vehicle is about ten feet off the ground. I was late, due to a mechanical breakdown, and doing about 40 mph, the maximum safe speed on that “road.” For some reason, I took my foot off the gas at the top of a hill. That instant, for all of a second, I saw a wall of fur in the headlights, filling the entire windshield. No legs, no top of back, just a wall of moose hair. Fortunately, that moose was in a bigger hurry than I was, or I would not be here. For the rest of that drive, I never got it over 30 mph.
“A car is bigger than a moose.” Wahl, pilgrim, tek ‘t fr’m t’is ole hivernant. Tain’t so, cept’n mebbe fer a yunggin.
I love that neither Puck nor Goldie tell Lupin anything like “That’s silly. You’ll never catch a car!” Instead they’re entirely serious when they interview him for this feline interest piece.
I’ve had two dogs that loved to chase cars. Both managed to catch one. Rascal lost a good part of her left hind leg (she is the one I reference when I am talking about my “three legged dog”) and Jellybean got caught in the wheel-well of a tractor-trailer that had no business driving through the neighborhood (JB had gotten out of the house while I was out for the day. Chow chows are too smart for their own good!).

I guess the times they’ve actually been in the car going to the V E T, being inside their carriers caused Lupin not to notice the car itself.
