With a one ton plus vehicle of potential DEATH. You bet your sweet behind one must be picky. You have to do things by the ‘numbers’ continuously, till they become an ingrained habit. Or you are likely to either kill somebody or get yourself killed.
But right on the mark to how my grandson and his best friend felt and acted when they first took drivers ed. And no, they did not pass test first time they tried to get license.
I disagree with Mr. Carey. With the mirror in the mirror on most cars today, it is much safer to rely on your side view and rear view mirrors, at highway speeds, when changing lanes
The purpose of mirrors is so the driver doesn’t have to move his or her body. Mirrors should be positioned so that you can see all positions by just eye movement. This guy should be fired.
But B-I-G picks. I remember when we practiced parallel parking in Drivers’ Ed. (As far as I can tell, that’s not done too much anymore.) We found places with two spots in a row. That was the procedure for my state driving test too.
Back in the day, They made us watch a movie called ‘Flesh, Metal, and Glass’ before we took cars out in driver’s ed. That movie knocked the cockiness out of most kids.
He’s not ready to drive. When I was 14 my sister had an accident that killed her 3 year old and left her quadriplegic and her vocal chords damaged. That sobers up your outlook and gives you a “taking it seriously” attitude!
If you’re a trained driver, the supposed blind spot doesn’t exist. The reason: you’re alert to every vehicle around you, because you check EACH mirror every 3 seconds. Ask a trucker.
One of my boys had a worse attitude than that, and I wouldn’t waste my time trying to teach him. I wouldn’t have felt safe being in the same car he was driving. 15 years later he still doesn’t drive. I think I saved him a boatload of money.
I’ve never taken a driving test, except for motorcycle. When I was 15 (1961) my Dad went to the court house and came back with my DL, this was before photos were on DLs.
Panel 1: You rely too much on your side mirrors.Panel 2: You don’t check the rear view mirror often enough.Mr. Carey, like Mike’s own mother, is talking out of both sides of his mouth!

Isn’t Michael’s poor driving the reason for a very scary accident with someone who likes him more than he deserves?

I no longer have issues parallel parking. The touch of a button on the console parks the car for me. Ah, technology!

What side-view mirrors? Or is Mr. Carey’s point that Michael shouldn’t be relying on something that he just side swiped off of the car?
