Well Calvin will be grown up one day and be able to boss his kids around. And he will still think he has a hold of the short end of the stick. :D

Calvin’s premise may be faulty. After all, it let him survive this long.

It is, Calvin. They can’t throw you out till you’re 18.

It’s a lot fairer for Calvin than many others. Context is important.

The world isn’t fair – unless you are at the world’s fair. (Currently, the Tokyo Olympics where every athlete and judge has taken an oath to be fair and play fair.)

Calvin, you won’t believe it today, but there will come a time when you will WANT to go to bed early. And take naps. Take it from me.

Calvin, one must game the system first to make that unfairness to be favorable.

My impression of every Father who ever lived ‘’Who says the World is fair?’’

If only we all, kids and adults, could realize, in the moment, just how often life IS unfair in our favor….

Think about this, Calvin. While gazing in a mirror.

The Tax Man is unfair everywhere, I presume. Unlimited institutional greed, unlimited powers unless somebody wants to bet a small fortune in Tax Court. My wife and her friend are battling a $2000 fine for filing a partnership tax return late last year. The friend already got the low-level guy to admit the deadline was extended to July 16, the envelope was postmarked July 11 (and the receipt from the post office agrees and gives expected delivery date) but COVID slowed down delivery to 8 days to our neighboring state. They pointed out the Tax Tip (301) from the IRS that states it is the postmark that counts but the tax demon does not want to let the fine go. They also found the documentation of the fine schedule for “failure to file” (the underlying offense), which is based on the amount that is paid late (the partnership operated at a loss, so no tax change for the partners). Sometimes we live in the Kingdom of Id.

Fair opportunities present themselves every 7 to 21 years or so.. whether you apply it, or decide to take a pass on it, is up to one.

The world? I thought it was just this household.

Dad should just say maybe if you got more sleep you wouldn’t still be 2’ tall and you would be able to take Moe’s lunch money.

Calvin, you have no idea just how many times it’s been unfair in your direction.

It is in your favor Calvin when you’re sleeping late on a summer day while dad’s up early to go to work.

The world isn’t flat either.

There’s an answer to that question but it’s a very expensive answer.

1. Major in math.

2. Become a Wall Street quant.

3. Make a billion dollars.

4. The world is now fair in your favor.

Yeah. I want a bigger share of fair.

Very true life will never be fair.

Most people define “fair” as “biased in my favor, because I deserve it”.

Some time back, someone made the comment that it is rare to see a strip without Hobbes. And someone replied that that is not true. Well, Hobbes has been missing from 3 of the last 4 strips, so I guess the latter opinion is winning.

Every time the parents interact with Calvin, the each think: “Life’s Not Fair!”

I’ll never forget the best line about fairness: “Fair doesn’t mean everyone gets the same thing. Fair means everyone gets what they need.”

That’s how life is… like a board game which you are losing in.

I don’t know why in the world kids want to stay up all night, it’s not fun at all!

It is, Calvin. But, when it happens, you call it “good luck.”

Fair, most kids like you would have already been shipped off to military school.

You have to learn that sooner or later.

“Life isn’t fair” is basically used as an excuse to treat other people horribly. The less that nasty phrase is said, the better.

That is fairly fair for you to have fair side at this age, Calvin.

That is the ultimate question.
