Unless the sapling is from a new “separate” tree, it should only sprout out from the cambium at the edge of the tree – from between the outer bark and the inner wood (which are made up of dead cells) – rather than from the center of the trunk.
Oh-Oh, I know this one: “And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots” – it’s Isaiah’s prophecy on Messiah (11.1)
Four decades ago we cut down a maple and a chokecherry in our back yard and new trees sprouted out of both stumps; in fact, two grew out of the maple and three from the chokecherry. Unfortunately, the chokecherry was dying off and when we brought in an arborist to look at it and he also found the maple had some rot on the inside. Since that tree overhangs our neighbor’s garage we had the arborist cut them both down just a few weeks ago.
Since then, hidden from view of the back door at the back of the stump of the maple a sapling’s come up. The arborist said there was a good chance the maple would come back, but he had his doubts about the chokecherry.
you can see Redwood ,Bigass Gigantius Tree in Cali growing this way , It comes up from the root .The Mother fell and a Ring of other trees grew up around and the Mother from the knob of the root . And the mother or first tree composted back into the soil leaving a perfect circle where it was .
I’ve seen “dragon trees.” These are trees that took root on a stump and the roots grew down the sides of the stump. The stump eventually rotted away leaving the tree standing on four “legs.”
Between the clear cutting and the fires, most current generations will not see a full grown forest. One can only hope their distant offspring will see it and take better steps than we did to preserve it.

It’s a comic. If it was meant to be logical or scientifically correct, it would be a textbook.
