Marcie’s not much for listening, either. She’s been told repeatedly not to call Peppermint Patty “Sir”, yet continues to do so.

The lost art of listening

Peppermint Patty hears what she wants to hear.

PP, you’re assuming that Marcie is even allowed near sewing machines!

You know Marcie, you have something that Peppermint Patty doesn’t have and that’s a mother who can sew a skating outfit. So why don’t you go ask your mother to do one for her?

That’s because Charles Schulz never drew her ears.

She has a vision

These two are a perfect example of “the blind leading the blind.”

If she were, she’d have let Chuck explain that he and his family were going to his grandma’s condo for Thanksgiving dinner.

I don’t have a machine, but I’m not too bad sewing by hand. My daughter in college was sad because her favorite Taylor Swift shirt didn’t fit any more. She said that maybe she’d have it made into a pillow. Unbeknownst to her, I did it. It was tricky as it was a V-neck; I filled in the neck with a piece from an old, unloved white t-shirt. I’m giving it to her today for her birthday.

Are Singer sewing machines still made? I remember their late 1970’s jingle in Singer TV commercials that featured Debbie Reynolds and Polly Bergen as spokesladies: “One hundred million people sew easier with Singer.”

Patty has one of the shortest attention spans ever! You can’t explain anything to her.

I can’t recall if we get to see the dress but lets hope so.

“Stop calling me ‘Sir’!” So who’s ALSO not good at listening??

Schulz’s wife must have had the same sewing machine that I have, if he copied hers for the strip today. I was given a Kenmore (SEARS), lavender colored, heavy cast iron machine for HS graduation in 1965. I still use it. It looks just like it’s pictured here, with the machine size and shape, and the dials and such in the same place : )

Ugh! A red costume with PP’s red-orange hair? Not on my watch.

My daughter was a skater, the sequins take a LONG time to sew on! Hand sewn…

I’d like a fitted cardigan

Patty reminds me of the rap song by De La Soul, “Me, Myself and I.”

My first thought was, Marcie you have a sewing machine? I haven’t seen one of those in ages, although Pattie isn’t that old. Who sews anymore? Everyone buys off the rack and throws torn clothes away.

Just now realizing that, hey Marcie? Maybe you can make her a tree skirt for a dress. Or get your mother to do it.

Same planet, different worlds.

Not much of a spoiler but this arc turned bittersweet toward the end. And then… tears. Of joy.

Actually Patty grew up to be Donald Trump.

To this day, I use “You’re not much for listening, are you?” as often as I can.
