Somehow, I don’t think you’re making your point, Earl.

Hasn’t Dude been replaced by “Brahh or Bro”? Sorry, I never know the proper spelling of the latest in slang.

Earl, you’re straying off the reason why you don’t want Nelson to call you “dude”…can you get back on track?

When my first grandchild arrived, I told everyone that I wanted him to refer to me as “Grandpa”, not a cute nickname, although “Your Majesty” or “Your Eminence” would be acceptable.

We called our grandparents by their first name, with the honorific: Grampa Knute and Grampa Julius.

My 27-year-old grandson has always called me Gramps and still does. The younger step-grandkids here in Ecuador, call me either Abuelo _______ or Don ________ ( with my first name).

In his grandpa’s day, a “dude” was a city boy stuck in a small cowpoke town.

One of my mother’s brothers was named George. She always referred to him as Brother. As I was growing up and all my adult life, I called him “Uncle Bubba.” When he died, all his nieces and nephews that had come along after I had moved away, called him Uncle George and I kept thinking, who the heck is that?

We always called our grandpa, “Papa Alley”, since that was his last name.
