If you work with a system that requires a unique password, you would be VERY WELL SERVED to go find some other system, because if it even knows what your password is, it’s VERY BADLY CODED. Passwords in any reasonable system are stored as an un-reversable HASH of the password. They check to see if you got it right by hashing what you put in the same way… and checking if the hashes are the same. Unique username is not quite as bad (though you will note that social media do not require it). I generally use my (throw away) email account for that.

“BUSHYTAIL” would fit. But I wouldn’t trust a system that restricts you to 9 letters.

Uh.. nope. That’s not how it works. It’s the username that’s unique.

After frustrating continual non-success, a frequent response is heard, “Oh, nuts.”

Some sites put so many restrictions on passwords that it makes it very difficult to come up with a password that you can remember.

I use a password manager and that helps. In theory, I can access it from any of my devices. Nonetheless, I have a a 5-page spreadsheet with my accounts and passwords as a backup. My wife knows where this sheet is.

I also back up installation keys for software and the unlock codes for the credit bureaus.

I will leave my usual comment. A good password has three characteristics: it’s long (I recommend 12 or more characters), it’s difficult to guess and it is easy to remember.

Special characters don’t make it any more secure, but they do make good “space holders” between the words in the phrase such as Elliot-November-26/1921 which is NOT my father’s name and date of birth.

However, this password does meet the $illy-@ss requirements for upper case, lower case, letters and punctuation that some sites require. Unless it is too long (It is 23 characters – limiting length is a really stupid idea for the site to implement) or like AT&T routers, it will let you set up accounts using punctuation, but doesn’t recognize any passwords that have punctuation.

It’s just a joke, but really doesn’t make sense. It should have been choosing a username, those 100% have to be unique.

See, every time I criticize a comic for not making sense, I get flame-balled. But I don’t have to bother criticizing this one, since so many other people have already done it for me.
