The recent loss of Buster at “Bob the Squirrel” is more timely.
Since there is no indication there will ever be new “DeD” strips on GoComics, this is a good time for me to drop it and find something new. Recommendations are welcome.
When I fostered my foster boy, I had to give him up to an adoptive home (I was just the foster mum) and the second I did, I realized that it was the biggest mistake of my life. We needed to be together, we just did. Iwas devastated.
Ten months later, after praying every day to get him back, she relinquished him, due to issues that apparently only I could handle, and I never let him go again. We are inseparable.
During our time apart, when I was oh so sad and depressed, Dog Eat Doug got me through somehow, because my Foster boy looks ever so much like your Sophie. Sophie helped me through his absence (in my life, never in my heart) and now Foster and I will be here to support all of you here, with the loss of our beloved Sophie.
With the tears from Dog Eats Doug readers, we will fill up the ocean until it overflows Xoxo
My condolences. I’ve loved this strip for a long time. Lost my best friend Kiah two years ago and it still makes me cry. But I adopted a monster dog named Lucy who could give Sophie a run for her money.
Sad! I lost my beloved Labrador, Buddy, in 2017. I know I’ll see him again. But life goes on – I have a new furry pal. Mr. Anderson: Is this an anniversary of the real Sophie’s passing?
Aww… I knew this was a strip about a real boy & his dog… Sorry Sophie passed but her spirit lives on every day in your comic… A beautiful & everlasting tribute to a cherished member of “our” family! <3
My “Georgie” taught my toddler so many things…. how to bark, how to pee on my clothes tree pole, how to carry a stick in his mouth, how to eat on the floor without using his hands…………
I know it is past 2016, but I will still wish Sophie (and all others that have gone since, to include my Sadie) safe journey to the Rainbow Bridge. We shall meet them on the other side. <3
This gives new depth to the strip for me. I did not know it was based on the antics of a best friend. My condolences, been there too many times in 70 years. I’m gonna get knocked on my butt when they all greet me at the rainbow bridge…LOL.
I lost my chocolate lab almost a year ago. He was 15 and the best dog ever. It is never easy to lose a dear furry friend. I see a lot of him in Sophie. Thank you.

It is so hard to lose them
When we last moved we had 5 cats and a St Bernard, we said no more pets until we lose at least 2
We waited until we were down to 3 cats, losing the last one was really hard on us
Now we have 4 again, Buddy joined us about 6 months ago
