That’s nothing. I remember years ago I once was in the living room listening to some tunes with the headphones on. And my sister could hear it out in the kitchen. Even knew the song I was listening to as well….
While it seems highly unlikely that Elly would voluntarily listen to Liz’s or Mike’s music, based on the way she has viewed their music in the past, I assume Elly was curious as to what kind of music would cause Elizabeth to be dancing around the house. I suspect the dancing is the motivation.
This reminds me of listening to the stereo in my car. As you get use to the volume you keep turning it up a little more and then a bit more. Then I go into a store for 20+ minutes, come out, get i, my car, start the engine and THE STEREO IS BLASTING THE DOORS OFF THE CAR along with piercing my eardrums!!
That must have been a top of the line CD player back in 1993. Because the first CD player back in 93 I bought did not have any vibration control so you had to keep it still on a flat surface or the music with every bump would skip into silence for at least 5 to 7 seconds before its drive would find the place it was at. I don’t remember them coming out with a CD player you could jog or dance with until around 1995 or 96.
I find that, sometimes, when I am listening to my earbuds I have them up so high because I want people to know the quality of what I am listening to. I’m pretty sure no one hears it and nobody cares if I am listening to the Boston Philharmonic or Dolly Parton. Just as long as I keep moving in a fast and predictable fashion down the sidewalk.
I may be old but I still like it loud…at times…it depends a lot on the song. I was recently sitting in a parking lot with the tunes cranked to finish listening to a favorite before I went in the store and gave some youngsters something to laugh about when they walked by and saw and heard me rockin’ out, even with all the windows shut. Never too old to rock & roll, baby! ;-)
I got my hearing loss from gunfire and explosions. Today they are suffering hearing loss (true fact) from loud music through ear buds and from car stereos.

Kids their ages today would ask “what’s a CD”?

that last remark, got that right (CD Walkmans sure were a thing before the MP3 player, iPod, and then iPhone took over)

Did I actually have it that loud? Wow.

Elly should remember her youth. They played loud music in the 60s and the 70s too. I know, I was there.

CDs seem to have been a short-lived phenomenon as compared with vinyl and even cassettes. I love Satellite radio.

Couldn’t Elly have heard the music coming out before inserting the ear buds?
And then lowered the volume?
Just proves what I said yesterday; Elly is a complete idiot!!
BlitzMcD about 3 years ago
One would assume that’s not a solo acoustic guitar number that Elly is listening to at the end.

No wonder so many young people today are deaf.

Not to mention checking what’s on the CD before turning the player on.

Thirty years ago I had a bank CD with 12% interest.

Why is there a wire on your ear buds? Cool, you can’t lose them!

I’m glad Lynn Johnston still had this comic reprinted. While you don’t see portable CD players anymore, CDs are still popular nonetheless.

@RobertRomero- Right. That would also be like asking what’s a vinyl record.
sjsczurek about 3 years ago
Ah, these kids today. Their music is just noise.
Like out parents used to say about our music. Only this time it’s true.
Isn’t it?

Mom can’t hear you, Liz. And maybe for a while after she takes them out.

Just remember, Hearing loss is permanent and hearing aids are not fun. Your hearing will not be “Normal”.

How young people today start to lose their hearing. I was only 35 when I realized I needed hearing aids. And my hearing is worse now

As they say… “If the music is too loud, then you’re too old”…
