I never saw his death on the news or messages like most. I only saw him listed on CBS Sunday Mornings weekly report on deaths. I have fond memories of Dobie.
I knew he passed earlier this month. It was unfortunate he was overshadowed by the death of Bob Saget. Dwayne was an icon in his day, and I felt the loss in his passing. RIP.
I found that show on my own many years after it left the air. It seemsI found a private classic since so few talk about it when doing histories of television. RIP.
What a wonderful tribute, I loved Dobie Gillis. Dwayne Hickman’s passing was overshadowed by several other celebrity deaths so it is nice to see this tribute.
Dobie Gillis lives on to this day. The four members of the main cast have been acknowledged as the inspiration for the four human characters in Scooby-Doo.
Thank you JJ. This brought back a flood of wonderful memories from a far sweeter time.A gentle time where all felt good, safe and dependable. These guys were hero’s to us as kids. This with Zorro, , McCales Navy, F Troop, Gunsmoke, Rawhide, Lassie, Ozzie and Harriet. And every Sunday night we would finish dinner and head to the TV to watch Walt Disney then Bonanza. Great childhood memories!
Thank you, Jimmy! I watched the reruns on morning TV as a child and loved Dobie and Maynard. And Warren Beaty was on there as some character whose name escapes me.
Fortunately for all of us who had mammoth crushes on Zelda (“Now cut that out!”) Gilroy, all 4 seasons are streaming for free on nine different platforms!
On the subject of loss, Dwayne Hickman’s obit in the NY Times made mention that his hair was brown instead of blonde … until the peroxide treatments made it start falling out. Hoo-ray for Hollywood.
My brother-5 yrs older- and my dad read sci-fi back in the day. I read them when I had nothing else to read. Then my brother got into Conan and Doc Savage-them I really liked. And my dad got into Ann McAffery- the Dragons of Pern series. Those werepre tty good, too.
Also the many other TV shows and movies he was in from the mid 1940s to the 2000s.
There has been a rash of a lot of actors/singers dying in the past several days to weeks. I think that the other day there were 3 or 4 of them at the same time – including Meat Loaf.

Wow! I remember watching “The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis.” I didn’t know Dwayne Hickman had passed away until I saw this comic.

Amid the recent spate of celebrity deaths, I’m surprised this never made any news report I watch (and I watch them all).

Never watched it that many times. My father didn’t like it and I was just the remote control. Bob Denver I remember more from Gilligan’s Island.

Not a word on most channels about Mr. Hickman. Most were praising Bob Saget. I guess death of a star is a generational thing.

Maynard G Krebs and Dobie Gillis - we would pretend to be them on the playground at recess. And the girls were Zelda. That was such a long time ago

When I visited Paris in the 80’s, I went out of my way to visit Musee Rodin. Solely to see The Thinker, solely because of Dobie Gillis.

Was Dwayne any relation to Bill Hickman, perhaps the greatest film stunt driver who ever lived?

DC had a licensed comic for Dobie Gillis. Great artwork by Bob Oksner.
Then licensed comics got too expensive so they slightly changed the artwork and called it Windy & Willy.
