It’s true. Fun is, well, funny. I love to contradance (alas, it’s an inside group sport, so I’m really REALLY jonesing right now). After a really good dance, I hurt in lots of places and it takes a day or so to recover. And I put in HOURS some weeks making sure dancing can happen… and I dislike doing that work.
And there’s one more young Plainwell doesn’t know about yet and that’s facing the fact that when you reach a certain age, more training wil not always lead to improved performance. In fact it may cause injury. That’s the toughest one of all to deal with.
Part of the value in her method is the feeling of successfully meeting those standards. Setting goals, prepping, performing, evaluating results, a complete effort. Don’t get to enjoy many of those in most professions.

Some people say, “No pain, no gain.”
I say, “No pain, pass the cheese.”

Should be no pain.

There’s only pain if you’re going too far past your threshold.
or if you slip and fall on something a dog owner didn’t pick up.

And it is still “fun”.

Skiing: A lot of work to do a lot of work, in the freezing cold … with wonderful scenery if the weather holds out.

“I just run for fun.” Ever notice that nobody ever says “I just get the runs”? I wonder why not.

She needs to spend less time with Frazz. His masochistic tendencies are rubbing off.

If you are getting pain maybe something is wrong if you are a veteran of running for fun.

Besides competition and fun, there’s running to stay in shape and good health.

Gosh, when she puts it that way…. Maybe I’ll take up the “sport” of self-flagellation.
