Hah! This reminds me of something a comedian (I think I saw it on Dry Bar) said. I don’t remember the exact thing, so I’ll go with the gist. “Ten Commandments is pretty efficient of God. My wife has at least a thousand commandments, and that’s just for me in our house.”
Parenting styles: My mother would give me pointless “lectures”, the gist of which I grasped in the first few seconds.
For instance, not properly drying the dishes could turn into literally a half hour rant at me. My knees would lock up and I would get tunnel vision. I figured out later she was unhappy but there was NOTHING I could do about it. As discipline, it was wasted.
On the other hand, my father would just say, “Son, I’m disappointed in the job you did. Do it over.”
That was pretty much the policy in my childhood home. Dad told you to do something and didn’t accompany it with explanations or reason. If I was dumb enough to ask, the answer was: Because I said so.
Yeah, it’s annoying when my parents suddenly lecture me and my brother about habits or behavior or whatnot. With my mom she tends to do surprise lectures. Then with my dad, he asks me to do something, and when I answer with “Okay” (like he’s often recommended me to do and then he starts lecturing me starting with a “Because” and then a long-winded reason thing. I thought he’d want me to do that task right now!

Go do your homework. Not going to tell you why or tell you twice, just straight to punishment if you don’t. Is that what you had in mind?
