So why does he think that you can slice toast?

You don’t make toast, you toast bread.

How about a toast to Frazz? A good old German toast: “Zwieback!”

Then there’s the age-old unanswered question — “At what point does bread stop being bread and become toast?”

Is Caulfield going to leave us hanging or will he tell us what that tells us about a person?

Caufield hates it when someone can out-semantic him, doesn’t he?

There was a program on TV last week about Wonder Bread, who apparently invented the uniformly sliced loaf.

As someone who usually uses presliced bread, I’m amused by Caufield’s comments about slicing bread for toasting.

One of these days I’m going to toast a slice of bread with the setting on darkest just to see what happens.

We began buying unsliced bread at a grocery bakery a few years back. Like the taste better than package bread and, as we don’t eat bread every day, the uncut part, wrapped tightly, seems to keep longer. We also vary the thickness of the slice for whatever we are eating. Lunch sandwich, toast, snack. Works for us.

But that’s just us. Whatever makes food taste better for others is fine.

You can slice a slice of toast in half and you get two slices of toast. Try it again and you end up with four pieces of toast.

Maybe Caulfield’s home buys bread in unsliced loaves.

The local Kroger sells un-sliced loaves of bread, and they have an automatic slicer that will evenly slice it for you!

I quit loafing and made some bread to buy a toaster. The crust is history.

So, we have a teacher in Mrs. O who is constantly on the receiving and of Caulfield’s incessant pedantry and disruption. Today, the teacher unleashed a small percentage of his own medicine upon our resident prodigy’s head, and the resulting third panel is eyerolling and comments about her character.

    Pair of sociopaths.

If you think you can tell a lot about a person by mentioning toast, just bring up the topic of abortion.

For those that are confused, there are two things the saying about toast differentiates between the thoughtless and the thrifty. A thoughtless or just heedless-of-morrow person or selfish would hack off the thick pieces and run the loaf of bread out faster. A more controlling/aware/thrifty person would slice it thinner to make the loaf last longer.

SEcond thing is he could have deliberately worded it “slice toast” to see how people reacted to that statement to differentiates the pedants from the people who have more grace.

When I bake a loaf, sometimes I like to slice an extra-thick piece, toast it to a golden brown, then slice that TOAST open to make a delicious pocketed sandwich. It’s crispy on the outside, but completely soft and warm in the middle.

I thickly slice the bread, then toast it to then cut it open to fill it.
