Lots of folks talk as if there are rules about ârealâ coffee. Seems to me that we generally prefer coffee the way we first tasted it and liked it. Some had straight up black and strong. Others had variations, including sugar or cream/milk, or both.
Dad liked RR coffee, boiled in a pot while the crummy [caboose] rattled the rails. Strong enough to float a spike as he put it. This was 1930â-50âs. Mom, on the other hand, saw how a shot of that RR elixir caused her only child to climb the walls and commit general mayhem, and added sugar. That worked for me for years, until I tried USAF chow hall coffee. Almost peeled the enamel off my teeth, so I added milk. Now drink a cup a day of each of those. Reminds me of family and home and far away places.
Yeah. And I really donât care for the additive laden stuff sold at exorbitant prices to people who complain about the cost of living. Seems somehow self-defeating. But to each his/her own.
Remember the brouhaha about Starbucks giving their drinks froufrou names, like Frappuccino? But we were all happy drinking milkshakes called Blizzards, and eating burgers called Big Macs or Whoppers.
Wait! Somethingâs wrong. Whereâs Scherzo to gripe that an eight year old kid shouldnât be drinking coffee of any sort, or be at all familiar with the more exotic commercial abuses of the drink? Is everything okay in the Land of Dyspepsia?

Coffee. Black. If you want cream and sugar, go to a candy store.

Why does it have to be an abuse of anything? If people like it, who cares? Another bad assumption by the kid.

I think this actually sounds quite good! The ingredients, that is, not the name.
