It’s interesting to compare Moon Maid in the first frame with Mysta Chimera in the second. The main difference is Moon Maid’s flipped-up bob hairstyle, made popular by such early 1960s icons as Jacqueline Kennedy and May Tyler Moore, and the longer, more free-flowing style of Mysta Chimera.
I know that some here lement the fact that Lizz no longer wears the gloves and hats that characterized Mrs. Kennedy in the early 1960s, but that was fashion of its time. I think the pearls are actually part of the typical look:
Are they unaware the Diet Smith developed a counter to these powers? I’m sure production could get ramped up as needed. Especially if there’s money in it for ol’ Diet Smith Industries.
a nice refresher on Mon Maid’s past with the government and their concerns about her… and the Ambassador is now seeming to approach panic and desperation mode…
This doesn’t look like the Moon gov of old who might delight in standing back and let the roguers have their fun but then, he would not be our leader if this group succeeds. He is just old and in the way to them and may just be done away with as competition or viewed as an opposing force.
here’s another hypothesis by me… “What if the Ambassador is REALLY the villain of the piece after all?,” despite how he may appear in today’s installment… a What If possibility, if you will… let us surmise that the Ambassador IS playing the long game and HAS turned renegade with thoughts of attack and conquer… his motivation may be retaliation for the brutal murder of his daughter… he’s had hatred and a thirst for vengeance festering in him ever since and he’s become obsessed with punishing the entire human race for the actions of one lone assassin, that he slowly and quietly formed a rebel faction in Moon Valley and continuing in New Moon Valley consisting of fellow Lunarians who also secretly grew to hate and despise ALL Earthers after Mysta’s death… one of their own has come to harm and now ALL Earthers must suffer and pay for this crime… perhaps the Ambassador and his faction somehow secretly sabotaged their own eco-system on the Moon in order to do a mass relocate to Antarctica, enabling them to gain a foothold on Earth in the way of a secret base where they can REALLY begin to put their plan into motion… the Ambassador invites Dick, Mysta and Honey to New Moon Valley under the guise of a vacation, when in actuality, he wants to keep Dick nearby where he can keep an eye on him and neutralize him if necessary and keep Mysta and Honey out of harm’s way because he KNOWS that the invasion is a certainty and despite them being a part of Tracy’s family, in essence, they ARE still HIS family, so he will want them spared by keeping them in the Valley safe from the war… the other twist in all this is that Ro-Seanne is actually the good guy here in that he wants to prevent a war… he’s actually a peaceful Lunarian, secretly and fully aware of the Ambassador’s treacherous plan… Mysta and Honey there is now a cause for concern for Ro-Seanne… how THEY will react to all this should prove interesting… just a What If by me to ponder… and that’s it…
The Ambassador might no longer wield real power in NMV and he is just a figurehead. It is possible that Ro-Zan is the one who runs the show and the Ambassador is there just to keep his faction happy. Ro-Zan might also be holding the members of Ambassador’s family hostage in some way.
Let me see… How many Lunarians are there? They have awesome powers if they get up real, real close to you (and you aren’t wearing the ring that saps their powers). There are millions of men and women in armies around the world, with weapons whose range will hit a target half a world away. The Lunarians wouldn’t be bringing a knife to a gunfight… They wouldn’t even be bringing a slingshot. A pea shooter? Maybe.
What a relief to discover Silly Putty is the equivalent of Kryptonite for moon people.Earth is save, and kids can make of Snoopy to carry with them. And if you stretch Snoopy, you get a new Tracy villain!
Like some here, I’m getting a red flag with the ambassador. For one, not Governor? Now Ambassador? His expression in p3 doesn’t seem right as well. Gweedo also raises some questions too. Hmm.
It seems like because they don’t have a lot of experience in this area, the Moon People don’t really know the difference between “policeman who tries to solve crimes” and “secret policeman who tries to track down political dissidents” and Dick is not going to do anything to clear this matter up, I’m quite willing to bet.
In a reply to Sporteric11 above, I commented on panels 1 & 2 of today’s strip. In panel 3, Ambassador urgently implores Tracy’s help in saving Tracy’s world from renegade, xenophobic Lunarians (like Ro-Zan? Hmm.). I think the point of Ambassador’s request is that, lacking detectives, the government, such as it may be, of New Moon Valley is not adequately equipped to root out who belongs to the rogue faction, nor how many they are, nor who their leader or leaders may be. This is where Tracy’s legendary detective skills (not always actually evident in the strip!) come in. Tracy (who could easily end up being assisted by Mysta and junior detective Honeymoon) is being tasked to collect vital intel on the rebels before they attempt to conquer Earth!…
1. Odd that the Ambgov calls his daughter “Moon Maid” rather than Mysta. Same for Junior a few days ago.2. Strange, or rather coy, that he only invited Mysta and Honeymoon on the trip, when he really wanted Dick Tracy. Had he expected Dick Tracy to insist on coming too?

I really don’t care for the “shading” technique used on Tracy’s face today – it looks like he’s been scratched by an angry cat, or something.

As a certain car bomb proved,Moon People are still only flesh and blood.
I’m thinking of EARTH VS.THE FLYING SAUCERS,where sonics did a pretty good job on “invincible aliens”.
Still,Tracy’s hope(and ours) is that this thing can be defused somehow before it reaches the combat stage.
Moon Maid had Tracy and Diet Smith as “character witnesses” for her, which probably helped a lot.
And Diet probably had some defense contracts he threatened to cancel if the paranoids didn’t lay off.
