My new roommate leaves the door open for his dog, and lets in flies. It took a while before I found a flyswatter in the store. I’m praying for an early fall.
When I was at high school, the teacher rolled up a newspaper to kill a wasp that was in the classroom. Another boy said, “Don’t kill it. Open a window and it will fly out.” I replied, “Or others will fly in.”
When we were little, Daddy told us he’d pay us a penny for each fly we swatted in the house. It didn’t take long before we realized we’d make more money if there were more flies in the house, so we propped the back door open to let more in. He withdrew the deal immediately upon finding out what we were doing to maximize our profit potential.
Once I found a moth in my rooms. I thought, let her live. Some weeks later, little worms came out from my food case. It had placed its eggs into my food case!
That’s my daughter. Any bug in the house she will catch & release. We even have a small box for just such purposes. I actually watched her TALK a spider into the box!
I will relocate all bugs to the outdoors except for spiders. I’m extremely arachnophobic and don’t want them breeding, so I admit it – I am a spider murderer. Bwa ha ha! However, ants and other non-flying bugs get rescued one by one via getting them to walk onto a dustpan for transportation to the outdoors. For flying bugs I’m with the person who darkens everything but one open window.
ah human nature, “we got the badgers to kill the snakes that we got to kill the cats we got to kill the rats we got to kill the toads we got to get rid of the harmless flies we had”

Back in the early ’70’s, I remember a TV ad for some device that you hung up in your house, and it was supposed to kill flies, mosquitoes, etc.
Those ads didn’t last very long; either those things were ineffective, or there were unpleasant side effects.

If you leave doors and windows open they will fly back out by themselves, plus small insect eating birds can do the same.

Flys are attracted to light.
If you have a glass or a screen door, just turn off the lights, close all the blinds on other doors and windows and wait.
All the flies collect on the door, open it and they fly out.

Spiders get moved outside, as there is very little for them to eat inside.

I’ll move spiders to less open areas of the house. As for flies, they’re on their own to survive from the cats.

Flies are phototropic. I can often get them to go back out by opening a crack in the door but it has to be darker inside.
