Actually the Aphrodite (Venus) de Milo is believed to have been created by Alexandros of Antioch, an ancient Greek artist. Not a medieval Italian.

His first rendering was just an idea – it hadn’t been carved in stone yet.

6 feet, 7 inches (202 cm). A bit tall for my taste. She was surely in the greek basketball league (before she’s overdone filing her nails ;)

I did a paper mache sculpture once. It looked like it was done by the 6 year old I was.

One thing I never did figure out about sculpting. Stone, soap or wax. Where is the best place to start?

When it comes to eating, you sure have to hand it to Venus de Milo.

I read somewhere that the way the ancients made such wonderful perfect marble statues was they made a full body mold of the subject, ground marble into powder, and with some kind if cementing agent they poured that into the mold.
