Coming Soon 👀 At the beginning of April, you’ll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
Sadly, world record leaf pile jumping eliminates spontaneity. An application must be submitted beforehand and specific guidelines adhered to in order for a successful stunt to be accorded world record status. Details, details…
To be eligible for a Darwin Award you must not yet have procreated and must not be able after the incident. Or must remove any offspring in the process, too.
I appreciate the Piles of Autumn leaves comics as a relief from the usual tiny desert island with single palm tree tropes. I am still looking forward to the reindeer gags of crashing into various things (the New Year’s baby? Old man Time?). Yay, food holidays!
Amazing what some people will do for that fifteen minutes of fame (or at least recognition). Unfortunately for them, it takes less than fifteen minutes to read the obituary sections of local newspapers.
Had a colleague who was working on the roof of his house when the ladder toppled. He thought he could jump into a pile of leaves without injuring himself, and broke both his heels. He was in casts and a wheelchair for 8 weeks.
In-laws had a cottage up in snow country. We went up at Christmas and there was about 2 feet of snow on the roof. We thought it best to clear the snow. The pile was great to jump into from the roof.
There was a guy who jumped out of something at a deathly height, wearing one of those “bat” suits, no parachute, and landed safely in a giant collection of cardboard boxes, as I recall — oh, here: https://www.redbull.com/us-en/world-s-first-skydive-without-a-parachute

Make sure it’s not a windy day. The leaves might blow away between the time you jump and the time you land.

And you probably need to be higher than your roof to try for the world record. Maybe he’s just going for personal best.

It wouldn’t invalidate the record if you put a mattress under it.

If you don’t survive, you might get an honorary mention in the Darwin Awards.

I think the record is held by Super Dave Osbourne. Only broke 5 bones doing it.

I still don’t get it why people rake leaves… nothing but disadvantages with raking leaves.

He who hesitates is lost, but, it seems to me, in this case being lost would be safer than depending on one’s medical insurance.

As I recall, the leaves didn’t have a lot of buoyancy. You flattened them to the ground rather easily.
