I’m actually an optimist, most of the time… I expect people to behave more or less nicely (the weather, not so much). But this one… also not so much. It’s just so much EASIER to tear things down that when the folks whose agenda IS to tear things down get into power, they get a whole lot more destruction per unit effort than the builders can possibly manage. Not to mention that a very small group can set off a (maybe only metaphorical) bomb that it takes thousands of people… working together… to recover from. And “working together” is hard work in itself.
Bottom line: I foresee another dark age. WITH tornadoes, floods, wild fires and all too probably “tactical nuclear strikes”. At this point, I hope to die before it gets so bad that I can’t keep my optimism at least PART of the time.
If the candidates believe the elections are rigged and they win does that tell them the system actually works as it is supposed to? Or does it tell them that they are not the legitimate winners of the election? Either way if they win their seats they disprove their arguments about the elections being stolen, at least from their personal perspectives. Unless, of course, they are willing to admit that the election was rigged in their favour.
If your vision for 21st Century America is “the land of the free and the home of the brave”, vote Democratic. If your vision is a combination of the Confederate States of America, 1930’s Germany and “The Handmaid’s Tale”, vote Republican.
Wife and I got our Absentee Ballots on Saturday. Took our time, voted Sunday, then-in accordance with Oklahoma Law-we went to a Notary Public to prove we were who we claimed we were, then mailed at local Post Office yesterday
If, the other party feels the same, why bother having elections? If you only accept the results if/when you win it makes the whole voting thing kind of redundant.
Democrats winning elections IS the only antidote to MAGA Republicanism (the party of Q and election deniers). What other plan should there be? You can’t change their minds; these people are unhinged and so are the fools who vote for them. In less enlightened countries, such individuals would be sent to reprogramming camps. God help us, but they have a first amendment right to say what they want, no matter how loony. They also have the right to run for public office.
Unless Democrats retain the House and add to their Senate majority, the laws that will shore up our federal election laws can’t be changed. But even if change happens in Washington, the states are left to do what they want, and as we’ve seen, there are MAGA candidates occupying state houses and local governments all over the country.
After extensive investigations required to disprove Republican claims, the only frauds found in the 2020 election were people voting in someone else’s name. ( and most of those were Republicans)They were a minuscule percentage of the vote—like 19 out of a couple million. If you sincerely believe in election fraud, please volunteer to be a poll worker. The ballots are never out of the sight of people chosen by the party leaders of each party that wants someone there. It would be impossible to “drop off” a box of votes that didn’t happen, because the vote count has to match the number of people who voted, even if it takes all night to figure out why it’s one off. Then, the ballots are sealed in boxes and driven to the central counting area, by one person from each party, where they are again tabulated with the same standards. Mail in or drop off ballots have to have a registered voters name on them and go directly to the central counting office. They are harder to cheat on than if you went to a polling place. Election fraud is just not viable with the systems in place.
If Trumpism results in the Trumpublican party loosing the next two election cycles, with Trump-selected Q-approved deplorable candidates in “purple” districts and states losing to moderate Democrats in droves, then perhaps the remnants of the real Republican party will eliminate the stain of Trumpism from their party.
Liz Cheney is banking on this eventuality, hoping her devoted dedication against Trumpism will lift her to national leadership.
In the meantime, two or three more election cycles of Democrat rule over House, Senate, and White House may give the Democrats enough time to repair the damage perpetrated by TFG OFM (The Former Guy, Orange Florida Man).
I feel the same way..the Republicans are happy because an authoritarian government has always appealed to them. A little research into conservative personality traits makes that clear. This is happening because most people think “it can’t happen here”
As for the climate change, again, most people think “it can’t happen here”. So our future is watching the planet become unlivable, at least for humans. The problem isn’t just the corporations. It’s also the “little guy” unwilling to make the huge lifestyle changes that will help…and I mean much more than buying “EVs”
Remember to vote even harder than ever if you live in a state where your vote LITERALLY will not be counted because the Secretary of State and/or state legislature would rather deny a fair election where their preferred fascist loses.
As to the coalition of (republican) secretary of state candidates, they want to “fix the whole country” by fixing every election, literally. Integrity as seen through the eyes of authoritarian ultra-nationalists.
