Now I guess we’re supposed to forget about the school shooter drill story and whatever outcome it had for Keri. Or maybe she’ll go to the concert and freak out or get laid while Gil and Mimi are getting a divorce. Or maybe that plot line didn’t have a reason for being there. Skip around, skip around…
Almost 20 years ago I was on a cruise with assigned dinner seating. The couple at the next table said nothing to each other (over dinner anyway) the whole week. The only way I knew they could speak was when each placed his/her order. Sad.
I am 75 years old and have been reading Gil Thorp from the beginning. I think it is a mistake to bring serious social issues into comics. I miss following the teams win and lose. Every now and then featuring issues with players is fine but this stuff I simply don’t read comics for this reason.
It was implied by Mrs. Clover in a previous strip that Mimi has already served Gil with divorce papers so unless that didn’t actually happen his comment in panel 3 isn’t necessary. It would have been more impactful if there had been no dialogue, the same as panel 2.
Three of the worst drawn panels I’ve seen in 50 years or reading this strip. Who are the zombies that took over Gil Thorp? April Fools was 7 months ago!
It’s official: this strip is now totally ruined. This is what happens when the captain of your brain ship is drunk at the wheel (metaphor courtesy of Dr. Perry Cox).
Remember when we’d make fun of never seeing the kids? Or how Mimi was just sort of around? I miss those days. I mean are they even playing football games? Is Gil coaching Football and Girls Volleyball? This has gotten pretty weird.
I like the way that he beats Mimi to the punch divorce-wise while still putting the onus on her as the divorce-wanter. If he put half as much mindgame effort into his coaching, Milford football might be actually doing well this year! [NOTE: IS MILFORD DOING WELL THIS YEAR? HAVE INTERN LOOK INTO THIS] [NOTE: DO I HAVE AN INTERN? LOOK INTO THIS]
13 strips without sports and counting. Is expecting Ol’ Hank to do some research to be able to write knowledgably about sports too much to ask or are we stuck with this alzy soap opera cr*p?
After days of “he keeps jumping around! there are so many loose threads! I can’t keep track of all the plot lines!”, today we check back in on the “marriage on the rocks” plot which has been going since this story’s inception and people are complaining about this one too? How exactly is this confusing? Why is updating us on the main subplot a bad thing? Have you guys never watched a serial TV show that unfolds episode-by-episode? It’s not like you need a mind like a steel trap to follow this.
Tomorrow, Gil is all in on the divorce and shows up with facial hair, smelling strongly of English Leather, wearing a leisure suit and an open collar shirt with chest hairs showing, and gold chains, like all the single guys wore back in the day

Whigham must have worked overtime on the artwork today.
Yeah, despite the lack of action I thought I’d give Henry a break today.

Gil’s Coach of the Year! Why would anyone want to walk away from that? What’s more, he’s only required to attend two football games per year.

Maybe Gil is hopin’ for a “yes” answer so he can go find that bartender, airplane girl, or Heather Burns

Hey kids, spot the differences between panels 1, 2 and 3. Word balloons are not included. Ready for the complete list?
1-Gil’s head is raised in P3.
2-The end, there are no other differences.
And speaking of differences, you can notice many differences between Gil Thorp and Mopped Up Thorp.

Has anyone seen wine glasses like that? Where the rim is sloped on a 45 degree angle? Seems difficult to drink that way.
