Isn’t it amazing that such old world paternal comics like this is still printed and you can still read today? In today’s equal rights world it would have been Lucy playing the piano at the Moscow concert, and it would have been Lucy who would have burst out in laughter and ridiculed Schroeder for trying to ask to marry the supremely successful Lucy!
Let’s face it Lucy, if it were a race for Schroder’s affections between you and a piano, the piano would come in first, Beethoven second, baseball third, and you would be the 4th place finisher in a two competitor race.
Picture this, Lucy and Schroder are, by some miracle (in Lucy’s favor), married and Schroder has to give up the piano all together because Lucy doesn’t want him doing the things he enjoys.
Schroeder was very gracious in controlling his laughter after she said they would be married, and then when she said he would lose a piano competition. But when she suggested that he wouldn’t care because he was so happy being married to her, he just couldn’t hold it in anymore.

Times have changed since today’s strip appeared. Are girls still concerned about being married when they reach adulthood?

Well Moscow would certainly not be welcome to host anything so civilized as an international piano competition these days.
Otis Rufus Driftwood about 2 years ago
