Been there, done that. Still managed to put too much salt and pepper in my stew, and the beer I used as part of the broth wasn’t robust enough to come through (hint: use Guiness or a similar stout, not an ale.)
Just a curious question for some expert cooks to answer. In the panel right after she is chopping the carrots, is that her thumb she chopped off seen right next to the cream sauce pan?
I’m not 100 percent Canadian, but right now, I have a craving for gourmet Canadian delicacies; poutine, butter tarts, Nanaimo bars, ketchup potato chips, maple bars and Jos Louis.

I can relate. A good cook is always tasting, evaluating, adjusting…

As they say, “you can’t lose weight on a diet if you eat a third of a family meal ‘testing’ it…”

Or, maybe she eats so little because she knows what it tastes like.
Bland gravy, butterless potatoes, and chocolate chips in a lemon meringue pie?

Technically, the cook eats all of it. A little taste at a time.

My son is the same way, except he cleans up the kitchen while cooking. He LOVES the compliments. He says that is what he enjoys instead of the meal.

How else can a cook know if the mix is right? Although I have to say the chocolate chips are an indulgence!

I know the feeling. When I make our family holiday dinners, I’m not hungry when the meal served

Is this dinner just for John and Elly? Where did the kids go? And Farley should be there to help Elly with anything she drops on the floor.

every cook I know does this: if you cook right, you can’t eat what you’ve cooked. the payoff is in seeing the guests cleaning their plates.

There’s a great movie that just came out on Netflix about competing chefs: “Hunger” (yeah, subtitles but it was worth it).
