AND GORDON’S ARC FINALLY BEGINS!! To everybody who’s wondering, Gordon’s one of my favorite characters; he worked hard for what he wanted and was successful in the end. Yes, I hated how Lynn changed his character design from a youthful teen to a man in his forties when he was probably in his mid-30s, but I still love his character arc.
What’s interesting about this strip is how all the kids—even the most irresponsible ones—grew up to be hugely successful adults!!
Mike became a best-selling author, Elizabeth became a teacher, April became a veterinarian, Gordon became an entrepreneur, and Lawrence became a landscape artist. All with little or no help from their parents!!
Sometimes the people we least expect to get ahead surprise us with just plain ol hard work and being in the right place at the right time. Good on them I say.
Wasn’t this couch damaged in the flood? I’m all for picking up cast-off furniture when you’re starting out—I had a couple pieces that I adored back in the day, including the most comfortable chair of my life—but it’s got to be in good condition.
Pretty rare for a teenager to know where they’re going, what they want. Props to you, Gord! Seeing him get away from his terrible upbringing hits home. One of the best characters in the strip, in my opinion.

Another update to keep the strip current. In the original run, Gordo’s rent was $300.

Mike’s and Lawrence’s expressions show the ‘fear of missing out’.

Gordon never wanted to go to college. The terrific trio is about to be broken up.

I think that the other two suddenly realized that they might want to start thinking about a job, with graduation looming soon.

A positive cautionary tale, a rare bird in comics. Provides a certain sense of reality in ones perception of the story arc.

Schlubby or not, Gordon made a great life for himself and his family.

That is a teen that knows himself, believes in himself, and has the ambition to make what he wants of himself. Well done Gordon….Well done.

Michael and Lawrence thought they were going to room a college dorm together with Gordon, didn’t they?

This is Canada. Lawrence can get welfare for being gay.
Not sure what government handouts Gordon or Michael qualify for.
