We once had a cat that would sleep all the time One day, while he was sleeping, I hollered at him: “Wake up, look alive, do something”. He woke up, hissed at me, and went back to sleep.

One of my cats has the unfortunate ability of being able to sleep in positions which can only be described as “fallen from a great height”. It’s very unnerving, until she opens one eye.

These C&H ‘toons sometimes make me forget that it’s just Calvin’s imagination at work. But other times I do wonder. I caught my granddaughter once arguing aggressively with one of her dolls When I asked why, she told me the doll said something bad to her. I just said they needed to play nice and left. Later though I went in while she was napping and hid the doll. Even days later she played happily without ever asking where that doll had disappeared to. I then started to think maybe I should tie cinder blocks around the box I had put the doll into and sink in the Atlantic. Either I’ve watched way too many horror movies in my life or that doll’s going to climb out and unalive me some day.

Calvin: Hobbes wasn’t hit by tank, nor was he practicing upon you a prank. He pounced because your poem stank.
