Kim Carnes released a song called “Crazy In the Night”. The song starts with heavy footsteps coming closer, a knock on a door, and a whispered, “Who is it?” The day I bought the 45 I brought it home & decided to listen to it in my dad’s office instead of my room. When my brother’s dog, Benji, heard that beginning, he ran to the back door, barking!
My dog doesn’t bark in the house except on very rare occasions or in her sleep. She’s an active dreamer. I recently dog sat a pug for a week, and she barked at everything, including certain tones on television. I finally remembered that my child had bought a new doorbell that played different notes than most, and it did work as far as her dogs not barking at it. Apparently this one figured it out. The pug charged the TV a few times. My dog just looked at her in confusion. So did I.
They obviously live in a mid-century modern and his Mom is very hip in an early 60’s style. His brother is somehow grunge and Dad, basic odd dude. Still waiting for Red to fall down a well…
I adopted a sweet middle aged beagle a couple years ago. Only canine I’ve ever known to totally disregard a knock at the door or ring of the doorbell. He just lazily looks up at me from his nap as if to say “would you mind? I’m rather comfy.”

That’s doggie for ’who’s there.’ And then ‘get away!’ My Lizzie is such a good watch dog. Anyone near my house gets barked at!

My Doberman used to go sit by the door if someone knocked and waited for them to come in. ;-)

Have the two of them lost the ability to communicate with each other?

Today my constant companion crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. He looked a lot like Rover. I’ll see you again someday, Boone.
