As Lawrence O’Donnell reported on his program this week, Kaitlan Collins, the CNN “interviewer” who was way over her head, is a former conservative commentator who was hired by CNN from her previous employer, Faux “News.”
Hiring a Faux “News” right wing analyst to toss softballs with minimal follow-up, before an audience stacked with Trump supporters, reveals that CNN is now joining the race to the bottom, running against “Faux,” NoiseMax and OANN.
CNN (or should I say “Faux II”) did allow Jake Tapper and Anderson Cooper to follow up with their own show which critiqued both the Town Hall and Trump’s lies, but these two credible hosts need to find themselves a new media home if they don’t want their own professional credibility tarnished by CNN’s downward turn.
Real journalism would have meant one of their top correspondents handling the questions, including tough follow-up questions, and prepared to respond to the dodging and evasion for which Trump is so famous.
Will CNN report this donation of free advertising under the very false pretense of “journalism” as the “in kind contribution” that it really is?
Nonsense are many of the other MSM outlets saying they would never allow Trump to be on their network. They prefer you not hear from the party’s lead candidate.
A tactic straight out of the fascist playbook. Copied from the progressive President Wilson’s WW I strategy by Germany in the 30’s and 40’s.
It is a conundrum. Do you give a stage for a person who is skillful in playing the pro-wrestling, demagogue persona, but is clearly newsworthy because he is the frontrunner of a major political party? Or do you ignore him and not provide the public the opportunity to see how far down the rabbit hole this individual has gone? I usually lean toward a “let the people know” point of view, but this one is a really tough call.
Personally, I don’t watch any TV news, unless you count The Daily or Colbert’s monologue. I find the programs too shrill and ratings-driven. Also I started watching TV in the fifties and don’t need to see any more commercials in my waning years.
Well… It did serve as a reminder of just who trump is. And folk do need to be reminded. On balance, I give CNN a thumb up, but they could have selected the public questioners a bit better.
I don’t think Caitlin was over her head like some people think. Trump was simply being the brute that he is and knows what works for his audience. Facts aren’t important in MAGA land.
On CNN the fool disparaged the woman who just won a lawsuit against him – in part for disparaging her! Her lawyer says she’s thinking of another lawsuit for his comments. I REALLY hope she follows through :-)
CNN did a service by showing us just what we’ll get if Mr. Trump succeeds in avoiding jail and winning the 2024 election. As for Ms. Collins, I doubt there are many journalists who can wrangle Mr. Trump in the forum CNN agreed to.
From the comments, it is obvious who thinks the rotten orange came out on top. However, in regards to Kaitlin? What’s that saying about giving someone enough rope and…maybe, just maybe, they’ll dangle from their own words. That would have been one nice bit of strategy, in my mind.

Fortunately, the Miranda warnings don’t apply to Drumpf’s rant.

I think CNN did a fine job. For the first time, tons of normal Americans got to see what a creep Trump is.

It seems that “performance art” has become all the rage. Until now, I thought Collins was actually a reporter, not a performer.

True. that event will leave a black mark on Kaitlin’s resume. She deserves better.
